BMW drivers really are jerks...lol

I've noticed several members here get all hissy when owners of certain cars/models are called out for general patterns of uncouth behavior....see below for modage...

Link: http://autos.yahoo.com/news/bmw-driv...214456020.html

Drivers of BMWs frequently come in for anecdotal criticism for habits on the road that are perceived as aggressive.

Now, a couple of studies, one in the U.S. and another from the U.K., appear to provide statistical evidence that BMW drivers are, to be polite about it, complete jerks.

In the older study, by researchers at the University of California, BMW drivers were far less likely to stop for a pedestrian who had just entered a crosswalk, the New York Times notes.

“In our crosswalk study, none of the cars in the beater-car category drove through the crosswalk. They always stopped for pedestrians," researcher Paul K. Piff told the paper. He added that not only were "fancy cars were less likely to stop," but also that "BMW drivers were the worst."

Drivers of BMWs and other high-status cars (including Prius hybrids) were also more likely to cheat at four-way-stop intersections, according to the research.

In the second study, in the U.K., motorists were asked to identify the make and color of the car from which they have most frequently suffered road-rage incidents, the Daily Mail reports.

The study of 2,837 motorists found men between the ages of 35 and 50 driving blue BMWs were most likely to be reported as having engaged in road-rage behaviors such as aggressive driving and swearing.

I was going to a restaurant just now, and at the front of it a stupid guy in a 328i parked diagonally across2 spots. his window was down and his friend was getting in. so I said "it's only a 328i, it's not even that nice"
fucking loser

Funny comment from the link mentioned we didn't need a study to find that out.

Interesting that this study portrays the worst d-bag I've ever encountered. I was driving my mother's Accord on a local road running errands. Driving at the speed limit 35 mph, happened out of no where a man in his mid-30's in a blue BMW 328I tailgating as if I was suppose go twice the limit. He proceeds pass me on a double yellow line meanwhile narrowingly cuts me off because of oncoming traffic and almost ran me off the road like nothing happened. I was uber pissed but not as pissed as the other cars behind who sped up to chase the guy down like a highway chase.

As pedestrians, a few coworkers and I were cut off by a middle-aged man in a previous gen 3 series pulling into a parking lot. He stopped at the entrance when he saw us, then pulled in anyway without even a hand signal.

328i drivers are the worst. They're the people who wanted a BMW because of the status symbol, but really needed to stretch their budget to get it, so they bought the cheapest BMW. They're acutely aware that they're at the very bottom of the BMW totem pole, but they view BMW as the ultimate brand, so they still act like they are better than everyone else. Nice black certified pre-owned BMW 328i you've got there buddy, it's got 50 less horsepower than a Honda Accord V6, the paint is swirled and nasty and the wheels are caked black with brake dust because you just run it through an automatic car wash twice a year, and you've got no option packages.

ugh it kills me to see premium brand cars with front wheels black because of brake dust and rear wheels gray because of a little bit less brake dust

I call b.s. There are a group of people that are rude, inconsiderate and agressive drivers. They don't behave differently depending on what car they drive. They aren't nice, considerate people when they drive their wife's SUV and then turn into monsters when they drive their Bimmers. It's not the car, it's the person driving it.

I think it's funny that Prius drivers were listed number 2, and the description on Jalopnik as to the reasoning why.

Anyone can make blanket statements and generalizations about a group of people.

I was a much more aggressive driver BEFORE I bought my M3 than I was with it or after it.

But I also got older and more mature.

The funny thing is I have a friend that drives an E46 and while he is a nice guy and a decent driver, will straight up tell you that BMW drivers are jerks. (He uses a different word but I think this site blocks it, so why bother?) We went to an autocross event this last weekend and he saw a black M3 I believe, and complimented the guy on it, as well as asked what it had for an engine (I think that's what he said, can't remember) and the guy just blew him off. He laughed and once again pointed out that BMW drivers are jerks.

Yes, it's a trait of the person, not a trait of the car. But people with that trait are apparently more likely to buy BMWs than people without it.

True, but that's only the jerks that can afford Bimmers. There's a lot that can't.
