Typical life of the OEM brakes?

So without tracking, or auto-x, how many miles are people getting out of the OEM pads and rotors?

This always depends heavily on how you drive.

I've only tracked my car once (June 2012) and the stock pads & rotors are still fine at 51k+ miles. I am fairly easy on my brakes and don't use them unless I have to (coming to stop after using engine braking/shifting down through gears to slow down enough for braking in 3rd at low rpm usually).

I'm pushing 60K with no issues. I think they're just starting to maybe think about possibly squeaking occasionally.

You really can't put an exact number on it. It's a wear item so you have check it every so often. Typically when you do your oil change.

there are lots of factors that come in play, driving habits, mechanical issues, even pad quality them selfs.

Don't go off what people say, always check your own. If you don't know how, YouTube it or just take it to any mechanic.

Just looking for averages. I'm at 55k, and still good, so I got curious how long these things last. Other cars I've driven in a similar fashion, only got me 35k, but non-ceramic pad tech and heavier car. With my truck i could tell they were in need of service around 50k.

For a data point, on my '98 Tacoma I put Performance Friction Carbon Metallic front pads on soon after getting it (bought it with ~38k miles on it) and they were still good (but ready for replacement) when I sold it with ~167k miles on it (...and it was autocrossed for 4 seasons...along with attended the Evolution Autocross School in it for Phase 1). Stock rear drums were still fine too. I liked those pads!

The brakes will last as long as they last for each individual person and how they drive. They will not last one minute longer or shorter.

It is like asking how much people pay for insurance, a totally meaningless number even on average.

I pulled mine off @ 55k to put stoptech pads, centric rotors, upgraded fluid, and ss lines. Stock pads and rotors had over 50% life left. Then again, I drive a stick and usually downshift to slow down, so ymmv.

My stock rotors lasted close to 100k km's of daily and track abuse, and I still have the original stock pads for winter use with ~137k km's on the car. I've gone through 3 sets of summer pads though

Coming up on 60k miles on the rotors (4 years, 2 seasons of autox, 5x track days), roasted the OE pads at the track so those got put in a box at ~35k miles or so, but they still had tons of life left.

Tcoat's right, but the rotors are stout as fuck, I'd be surprised if anyone killed them before 60k miles on OE pads, the OE pads may not last as long if someone drives aggressively.

3 seasons of auto x (on and off) and 70k miles later and the brakes still feel good, probably about 25% life left.

Averages? Unless you are considering median and mode how can you have more than one average? How close to "average" do you drive? Best of luck quantifying this.
