Another 30-50 hp and it would have been "the" sports car of the decade.

More to the point I think, the BRZ's handling and braking power has never been an issue - so why is Subaru now giving us upgrades to both? Talk about wasted resources. They're doing that for us b/c they're lazy and don't GAF
So that is most certainly a want vs a need. For the 5% or so owners of this car that actually track it I appreciate that this would be an important want. Despite all the hype the fact remains that this is an inexpensive car designed for everyday street driving that can still be used on a track not the other way around.

No they are not "lazy". The market analysis and millions of dollars spent on it showed that this is the car that the majority were looking for. The high HP speed machine niche is full already.

I think offering upgraded suspension and brakes is a smart move because they are the first things people who track these cars upgrade. The OEM stuff is great on the street and competent at the track but it does leave lots to be desired when pushed to the limit. When the OEMs are losing all this money to the aftermarket, it would be silly NOT to offer such an option.

True, but...the base braking system with upgraded (track only) pads will be superior to the expensive Brembo option brakes with street pads. Yanno?

I'd be all for a BRZ Club Sport model. Something really stripped down weighing in around 100-150 lb less. Would be pretty nice!

I'll debate that. You have to use really high end, expensive brake pads to get similar fade resistance and bite that you can get from running a BBK with dual purpose or low end track pads. On the BBK, you'll also get better secondary characteristics like better modulation and pad life/running costs.

Then there is the fact that you cannot compare running a BBK with high end track pads to anything that you can do with the OEM braking system.

I wasn't aware that the Brembo brake option for the BRZ qualifies as a BBK? I didn't think the rotors, aka, heat sink, was much larger.

Def nod in agreement that pad life and pedal feel are superior with a fixed caliper design.

Oh, it definitely qualifies, the whole kit is definitely bigger than my RR Racing Sport Performance 4 pot BBK.

hehe, I'm trying to see if my S2000 would be fixed in time, so I can make that 200 some mile journey to CT from DC. Actually might be even longer than 280 some miles.

I suppose there's no clear "definition" of what makes a BBK. But I just assumed that since the Brembos fit behind the 17" wheel they weren't that big.

That being said, does anyone have the exact specifications of these new brakes? More or less, rotor diameter and thickness.

It's called a BRZ RA Racing. Only available in Japan, naturally. Comes with an oil cooler, brake ducts, 6-pt cage, and 4-pt harnesses.

I don't think they've released any official specs yet but if the pictures are of the final product then they look at least as big as my RR Racing kit which uses 04 STI sized rotors at 328mm diameter by 30mm thick.

Planet Subaru has a pic with specs that lists the following...

Front - 11.6 in ventilated disc, dual-piston calipers
-12.8 in BREMBO ventilated disc, four-piston calipers

Rear - 11.4 in ventilated disc, single piston calipers
- 12.4 in BREMBO ventilated disc, dual-piston calipers

Link also includes the information regarding the new ratios, if all is correct.

Pretty impressive hardware. Considerably larger diameter rotors than my 987S.

Hmm, so no change to the gear ratios, just the final. So it's going to be screaming on the highway.
