Insurance speculation between Scion/Toyota and Subaru?

Has anyone thought about how the insurance cost for each car would be once out on the streets?

I checked through several car insurance providers (Liberty mutual, State Farm, Mercury, AAA, Geiko, Progressive) and Subaru's insurance rates are normally fairly high, but that's because (what I'm guessing) is of the sporty AWD. When the BRZ comes out as a RWD--what would the cost of insurance be since it is totally out of where Subaru comes from (AWD cars).

As for other factors that may change how much you pay for insurance... lets omitt those. Those speeding tickets, age, and any accidents.

Clean slate, but how much?

I haven't checked up on scion, but I'm going to assume it's around the same price to insure as a subaru.

Edit: I don't know how other countries work in car insurance so I won't step into that zone. haha

I have actually checked the difference between the sports cars with full coverage and I believe that the difference was like $10 between an economy car and 2+2 sports cars like the Celica and the Miata/RX-8. I don't remember what it was for the Subaru Impreza models.

I have Wawanesa and so far, nobody else can come close to their rates.

I don't think the insurance will be that much more higher if you call and get a quote for a GC. Even though this is a RWD sports car, the 2+2 seating should level the premium a lot.

**EDIT**
I called to get a quote on a GC V6 and it was about $495/yr full coverage-250K/500K. I'm assuming the FR-S/BR-Z will be close to that, maybe less.

It depends a lot on the actual model of the car too. I've always heard that WRXes have high insurance costs, but never heard the same about the NA models. When I went from my 03 Protege5 to my brand new 07 GTI, my insurance only went up like 85 dollars per year. Also, when I was comparing rates back in like 2006 or so after I moved, I found out it would actually cost me less to insure a 00 Vette than my Protege. Go figure.

I'm guessing that the rates will be fairly similar between the FRS and the BRZ, since the car will likely be classified the same.

Yeah, I thought that was an insane quote as well. My insurance quotes I got with a clean driving record at the age of 23 was as follows

07 328i - $1846
07 335i - $1944
08 128i - $1694
08 135i - $1808
07 IS250 - $1730
07 IS350 - $1847
06 G35 - $1973
08 G37 - $1808

That was with 100,000/300,000. I know those are obviously in a different class completely, but there's no way I could see full coverage for a car that is being financed for less than $1200 a year at rock bottom.

Well my years of driving/riding experience almost eclipses your age. :happy0180:

There was a point in time in my early 20's where I had a speed contest ($1500 fine with a 7yr moving violation probation), aiding and abetting, reckless driving and a exhibition of speed on my driving record. Public transportation was my only form of transportation.

BTW-I won't even go there in regards to a teenager driving a Vette!?!

Those are still.. pretty pricy. Then again those are considered "luxury" cars. :< Least... thats how I consider them. Lol

I looked at different companies and these were leaps and bounds better rates than the competition. As you said, they are all considered luxury cars which I am sure has something to do with it but when you are under 25 years of age, insurance is not your friend. It is something you really have to consider if you are on a budget and buying a new car.

If any of you have been driving for at least 5 yrs and have 5 yrs of a clean record, definitely give Wawanesa a call! My truck/home insurace is through them and even though they are very strict, nobody can touch their rates.

Since they don't insure motorcycles, my bike is through AAA and once in a while I'll call around to see if qualify for a MVD; Statefarm, USAA, Geico, Progressive, Allstate, AAA. When I tell them how much I'm paying though Wawanesa, they won't even bother because they can't.

You may want to check on that because some states, they quote you based on driving exp, not age.

I need to do more research on this. Hopefully me being in my low 20's and a clean record it wont be as big of an issue. *crosses fingers*

Here in CT, once you hit the 25 year-old mark, insurance completely drops off. I've never even heard of wawanesa before, I'll have to see if they service the Northeast. We go through Nationwide due to my dad getting an umbrella from them for just about everything. Only things that aren't covered under them are my parents motorcycles, they go through progressive and my motorcycle I go through dairyland.
