I can't speak for OP, but I drive all over the state. Well, actually, multiple states. I use my phone constantly in the car for navigation, weather radar, music stored on the phone, access to Sirius XM through the cell network when trees and T-Mobile towers interfere with the satellite signal, access to I Heart Radio, infrequently accepting or making phone calls through the car's hands free (almost always while pulled over somewhere), access to Alexa and occasionally reading codes or monitoring the engine using Torque.

Why should I buy a new head unit when I already have a device (my phone) that fills all those functions and is already mounted right next to the radio display? I would still need the phone anyway, both for use outside of the car and to provide connectivity for an Android head unit. And an Android head unit would not reduce the amount of "having to mess with" a screen while driving, since I would theoretically be buying it to do all the same things.

So spend money on a completely redundant device that gains me nothing whatsoever? Why?
Well now, extrashaky, that may be fine and dandy where you roam around, but, messing with the cell phone while driving (or just sitting in traffic) here in Washington State, will get you a $136 fine. Grab it twice and it will cost you $234. If you get caught, of course.

However, you can "touch" or "swipe" it ONCE, but that's it.

In these parts, the best place for the cell phone is in the glove box -

Ahhh...I still remember the days when your only concern was to avoid your favorite (cassette) tape wasn't jammed on your car stereo... No apple-play/car-play/Android s**t exist, even in the imagination.... Yes, I'm old

I need to find a little bar to mount off the dash. Swap the Perfect Squeeze over when I'm not on the bike

You might want to go read it again. It prohibits you from "using" a phone. But then it defines "use":

(c) "Use" or "uses" means:
(i) Holding a personal electronic device in either hand or both
hands;
(ii) Using your hand or finger to compose, send, read, view,
access, browse, transmit, save, or retrieve email, text messages,
instant messages, photographs, or other electronic data; however,
this does not preclude the minimal use of a finger to activate,
deactivate, or initiate a function of the device;

(iii) Watching video on a personal electronic device.

If it's in my phone mount, I'm not holding it. I don't text or email while driving anyway, so that's irrelevant to me. And the law explicitly allows minimal use of a finger to activate a function of the device, like accepting an incoming call through the car's handsfree function or bringing up radar to see which direction that cloud up ahead is going.

Even in Washington the way I use it would be okay.

I thought that's what I said -

OK, you can come cruising through this county using your phone anyway you want - then you can "explain" the "law" to Billy Bob. Oh, BTW, you could take Billy Bob's citation to court, but be advised that the judge is Billy Bob's uncle - and any jury members would share Billy Bob's DNA -

Well now that's a different issue. Cops make up their own laws all the time. I thought we were talking about what the law actually says. And the law doesn't say you can only swipe it once.

If we're in the realm of cops just making shit up, it doesn't really matter what the law says. If a cop needs another ticket for his quota, he'll find a way to get it.

OK, if you get caught on the reservation, you could always appeal to the tribal authorities. Be advised that the Chief believes his medicine man when he calls all hand held (or mounted) devices "the boxes of evil spirits".

I use a scosche magicmount that slides onto the vent, and its great except now the vent has a lot of vertical play in it. didn't have it before and i've been using it for maybe 6-8 months. just a cautionary anecdote. the repeated pulling the phone off the magnetic mount probably wore out some chintsy plastic clip.

anyone else have this?

Does anyone have a decent mount that stands up to spirited driving/track abuse?

Trying to avoid buying a gauge as most are a damn eye soar, and the good ones are $$$.

Just as on car before, on this i'm still sticking to using Brodit mounts. Phone haven't yet falled of on roads i had driven (DD/summer tarmac tracking/winter ice tracking). No clue if it would also stand up on more rallyish driving, but for rest served so far well. Have to note though that my used mount is active one, so it is fixed in place not only by side plastic helds, but also by hard mounted charging connector sticked in phone.

My setup worked fine at my last track event.
I have a magic mount attached to the bracket[posted in this tread] on my trim.
I stuck the large metal plate to the back of my OtterBox. Doesn't budge.

Scosche Magic Mount. Don't buy a cheap amazon one, they don't work. I had one and hated it. Didn't know why it didn't work when my buddy has tracked with one for years until he told me the brand (Scosche).

I have mine mounted on the dash next to the radio. Also have the plate on the outside of your phone case. Holds up great on track and touge runs.

Oh interesting.

I have a GoPro stuff so this may actually work out. You just went and got any phone mount/clamp off of Amazon? My quick look shows there isn't a legitimate GoPro branded one.
