Photos from Ridge Motorsports Park 4/05

I got some great shots delivered last night from Kirk Myhre at RMP. Rain = great track photos.

Track day at RMP 4/19/19 - 2:07

I had another great day at Turn2's season opener event at the ridge on Friday!

The day ranged from damp to wet and back to a damp/drying track for the latter part of the day. Great for learning how to handle changing conditions. I noticed in particular how the car reacted as the rain actually started to affect the limits of the car.

Typically I find myself going out on a wet track and it stays wet. In that case, its relatively easy to adapt and know the limits right away. Under changing conditions, I found that I had to be much more aware of how the car felt corner by corner. Useful experience.

I wasn't able to go faster than a 2:07.xx given the conditions and what are probably slower tires than last year. Although I can tell I'm a net faster driver, the confidence in the car's grip was just much lower than the day I set my pb of 2:05. That said, lap times are just a lap time and I can feel the improvement as a driver, so I'm happy in any case.

There were some amazing open wheel cars and a handful of GT3s and GTSs out there as well. Nothing like a couple million dollars worth of german engineering to make you feel inadequate

Hope to see some out you out at RPM and PR in May!

AiM Solo 2 DL + JDL Ultra Quiet Front Pipe

AiM Solo 2 DL

I picked up an AiM Solo 2 DL to start logging and analyzing data at the track. I'm super excited to pick my laps apart and compare to other 86s with similar setups.

I'll be honest—the quality of the hardware isn't anything to write home about. The software that comes with it is of extremely poor quality. But I don't know of a better option that has the same adoption and quality at this price point. I'll get to try it out this Saturday. Will report back with my thoughts.

JDL Ultra Quiet Front Pipe

I also decided to finally complete my exhaust setup with a JDL Ultra Quiet Front Pipe. Should be a nice pairing with the JRSC!

Turns out the JDL UQFP doesn't fit the Perrin catback. Ugh.

I swore the donut gasket at the rear flange was the correct option, but it basically only sits up against the entrance to the midpipe without actually fitting inside. Back under the car I go to return it to stock.

Anybody in the market for a UQFP? Will be listing shortly.

Can't you just snip off the extra piping? My first JDL UQFP had the donut gasket, but I later converted it to fit with my perrin. Just brapp your way over to an exhaust shop and they'll have you sorted real quick

Maybe I'll bring it by Doug to see what he can do. Thanks for the tip.

In other news, I picked up a set of 5 lap old RE71Rs from @rice_classic last weekend. Should be a fun step up from the SX2s when the time comes!

What is the timeline like for the JRSC install? Looking forward to the numbers you put down and also your driving impressions.

Many say the JRSC is a bit underwhelming and I suspect it's because it makes power higher up and the torque down low isn't as strong as a turbo or perhaps even the Edelbrock.

I've been punting it forever. It's possible I may do it this weekend.

I don't expect mind blowing power down low. That said, pairing it with the A350 probably gets better results than most. Since my car is optimized for track driving, I don't have a huge need for walls of power below 5k.

Sounds like a fun weekend project! Hopefully you can get the JDL front pipe to fit on with the Perrin CBE, I'm curious to hear what it'll sound like!

In for updates!

Sounds good.

IIRC, you have CSG Spec Teins, correct?

I'm wondering if you have a review posted for them anywhere?

Really curious to hear your feedback with respect to how you perceived body roll, turn-in, change in direction, etc. after you put them on. Other things like build quality, daily comfort on full soft and responsiveness on stiffest setting would be really helpful.

I'm curious about going with something like this as opposed to saving for a bit longer and going all out on a set of JRZs or something.

I might be biased, but I think you should sell the kit and instead, put in a roll cage and come racing. It will change your life... in a very good way.

As soon as I get setup with a truck and trailer, I'm game. I would consider getting a second dedicated race car at some point...T4 looks like fun So does SM, but I can't say that around these parts! I like the idea of a purist NA race car alongside a fun FI build. Best of both worlds.

I did end up starting the install got about halfway through today. The NA -> FI conversion for the JR oil cooler is a bit confusing given the lack of documentation on the process. That said, I deconstructed the front of the car, ripped out all the stock intake bits, mounted the supercharger, and mounted the intercooler once I could disassemble my existing oil cooler setup.

Should wrap it up tomorrow!
