I guess I’m just jealous that Mazda is taking care of their older customers and Toyota is not. So far MY 2017, 18, and 19 are same head units. I’m holding out hope that if the 2020 is the same radio with a CarPlay software update then they might throw us older owners a bone too. Mazda has set the precedent. One by one the other Toyotas are adopting, and I was wondering if any other models had any similar deal. It appears from the responses that is not the case. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Ah I read it as the separate GPS function on the head unit.
I use a separate GPS since data is incredibly expensive when travel in the US. Since that is where I need directions the most I have never used my phone.

The new Toyotas that come with CarPlay are completely different head units and software from the prev vehicles that didn't come with it.

The good news is you can probably pick one up cheap at some point. That's how I upgraded my '13 in '14. Purchased a pulled radio from here, bought the GPS unit to match from eBay, and was up and running cheap.

If you are willing to stick OEM there are always radios available from upgrades.

Is there a 200mm Toyota unit that has car play?

I have yet to find one that
1: fits the Toyota 200mm opening properly
2: has car play with a capacitive touch screen. I would also settle for AAC codec supported BT streaming
3: doesn't look like this:

it's funny, because i prefer my radio's to look like that.

currently, i'm running this

i had one of these, which was nearly identical in price and features

but someone broke into the car and took it.

no one messes with radio's that look cheap, so i prefer cheap looking radio's.

Honestly, I don't know. It's not something I have an interest in so haven't tracked it. Some Toyotas have Carplay but don't know if they are 200mm.

I didn't think that stealing radios was even still a thing. Somebody stole the expensive 8 track player out of my 64 Chevy convertible once. I was really pissed since it was $60 and that was almost 2 days pay!

i didn't either. with newer vehicles having such integrated radio's there's even less of a market than there was before. and if retail on it was $350, there's no way it had a street value over $150... it's a ton of work/liability for $150 IMO, but i'm also not a thief...

but the loss of the radio didn't bother me as much as the loss of the custom integrity concepts box, and the damage they did to my dash. i still scour flea markets looking to wring someone's neck. it was the one time in months that i parked the car outside for a few hours, they hit it after it went back in the garage overnight.. neighbors camera's picked up a toyota-ish/nissan-ish blur of a fullsize truck circling the block a few times, never got any more information though.

This is not that hard as it's being made out to be. I had a Cafi Dashlinq4 in the car and it had everything that is being asked of it here. I now have a Dasaita HA2135-V840-8 and it looks stock as does the Cafi.
Actually a little better than stock since it looks like just a flat screen like any new Android phone. It runs as good as any phone would with most any android application. They are literally unplug a few wires off
OEM radio and plug new one in.
Unless you have aftermarket amplifiers and cameras which are also just connecting one wire each to the unit. There's nothing "jury rigged" about it all.
Removal of old radio and installing them takes maybe a 1/2 hour and little more if you are also installing aftermarket camera and amp to it. Both of those units I mention fit exactly inside the opening and no harnesses or
outer frame whatever stuff is on the units to make them fit in there. You have to be bonkers to pay $350 when that's enough to get a whole new receiver that will destroy any OEM one in function and form.

Ah ha! This is what I was talking about! Just saw this article today. Older Camries and Siennas will get an update. Are 86s next? Since the 2017, 18, and 19 radios are the same, perhaps my 17 will qualify. Here’s hoping.

Here’s another article about the retrofit of older radios. Maybe one day the 86 will join in on the fun.

On the Macrumors website there is another article about this. If you start reading the comments on page 5 you can see a few first hand accounts of those who have gotten the update. There is a poster called Virtual Steve who was successful in downloading the files and doing the update himself. Others have been charged by the Toyota dealer and others have gotten the update for free. Some anecdotal references to the offer expanding to Lexus as well. Interesting reading for anyone interested in a possible CarPlay update.
