Yeah, I just pop in now and then for the memes.

Since I'm rather casually here lately, are the guys under the FT86 post ironically commenting on it? Or are they just idiot noobs that don't realize it's the original concept?

I just can't tell anymore...

But the turbo is coming in December 2017 as a 2018 model:

If your car isn't actively trying to kill you, it's too soft and nannies and whatever.

That rear-engine Corvette prototype/test vehicle is pretty tiny. 90" wheelbase is shorter than any MR2's! Very low as well, c.g. height 14.5" Overhangs are significant though...

Toyota will produce three-strong sports car lineup

Given he was "Mr GT86", it’s no surprise that Tada-San is trying to make the entry-level sports car as simple and light as possible. However, to meet forthcoming emissions regulations Toyota is working on incorporating the hybrid tech from its LMP1 racers into the car, which means an MR2-style mid-engined layout could still apply, as battery storage in the overall package is easier. While the car may not be a hybrid from the start, Tada-San says Toyota is 'Working very hard' to make the hybrid sports car a reality.

If the SF-R is a hybrid, then it really destroys any chance it has of being a lightweight, inexpensive and simple sports car. Total deal-breaker for me. The original concept is brilliant.

I don't think the MR2 is happening, it would definitely have to cost more than the 86. Very few people would buy such a thing, which makes the chassis naturally expensive. Which is a shame, because Toyota has upped its engine game a lot, and I think the Dynamic Force 2.0 with minor tweaking (think ND2 Miata) would be worthy of an MR2.

Since Honda also said baby-NSX or bigger S660 aren't happening, I'm waiting for the next gen Lotus, and hoping it is slightly more reasonable to repair and insure than the old ones. I just need to have enough money to throw away when it comes out...
