the only potential problem is the use of dished pistons to direct the DI spray when they use stratified charge for cold start. if we have full ecu control, perhaps we can turn off stratified charge, and thus no need for the dished pistons?

or we can hope for the aftermarket to fix things:

Great! 86 x 86 like I was hoping. Now, do we have forged internals?

I doubt they'll lower compression, doing so would reduce power too..

Toyota has been very strict on ECUs from what we've seen so I'm not convinced they'll open that up either.

I hope I'm wrong though. N/A builds benefit from it too

Hopefully it's not even a Toyota ECU, just a modified Subaru one :P

As this will be my DD, and I'm sure many others, I'm still going to hope for a TRD FI option, I want this car and its warranty to last what its supposed to.

i've been looking around and it seems the 2GR-FSE also has the mid rpm dip in torque... on the promotional "dyno" only. on actual dyno runs, there isnt an obvious dip. so i attribute this to the scale of that "dyno". imo once we put this car on a real dyno, that tq curve should flatten out.

I'm going to hope its a Subaru and Cobb can get their hands on it, but only time will tell.

You can easily throw a turbo kit on anything, but if you don't know how to do so you may have very unpleasant (or expensive :P ) results. That's all my point was.
True, but I'm sure most people don't understand that stuff... Most people think bigger is better. I'm thinking twin scroll turbo would be beastly on this motor.

Recall the FA20 is a cousin of the FB20, which only makes 140HP. Extracting 60 more HP while still meeting worldwide emissions with lowest-common-denominator fuel is quite an achievement. 12.5:1 static CR is nothing new; drag racers have been running over 13:1 with carburetors since at least the 60's. DI + 12.5:1 static CR is not terribly aggressive; other posters have already pointed out Mazda is doing 14:1 static CR with their Skyactiv engine, though they back it down to 13:1 for stupid garbage USA 87 octane.

I know of racers that will prefer NA power over FI power. I think you are referring to the straight line 1/4 mile racers. This car isn't for that.

This is why I'm hoping it's cheap enough that I can keep my WRX. It gives you a lot more flexibility in projects if you have a second car up and running while the other one is down.
