Mortality insurance premiums are based on the age, use, and value of your horse. Annual rates can range from 3% or more based on the insured value of your horse.
The cost of horse bling, that can add thousands per year alone to keep up with the new styles. Not going to even get into what it costs for introducing forced induction to a horse.
I have a friend in the Santa Cruz hills that owns 2 horses. He says the vet bills alone each month are like a car payment.

Guys... going about this all wrong. Horse ownership should be handled like german luxury car ownership. Ignore all maintenance, feed it cheap food, state minimum insurance and then just sell it after 3 years so all the poor nutrition and early mortality responsibility falls on the 2nd owner. Buy knock off horse bling on ebay and then take it all off the horse before you sell it and sell them on internet forums as genuine horse bling under a new username you created just for selling fake horse bling.

Plus, only one horsepower and no way to turbo, although you might be able to supercharge it with a cattle prod or some spurs.

You drive an FRS, can't complain about insufficient horsepower.

Horses are about the handling, not straight line performance

My wife sold horse trailers for many years. Her boss bred race horses. Some of those horses cost $2,000 a month or more to take care of. That was 15 years ago so I would hate to think what it costs now.
Owning some broken down old nag may cost $100 a month but it only goes up from there.

Gotten 4 speeding tickets in total since age 16.

Forgot about the boat and trailer! I think they added like $8 a month to my policy

You're paying $2,660 a year to insure a $25k car and you feel like Geico is being good to you... ok then.
