Where did you find this? Also any documentation on how the oil flows through the core? I found this which is MUCH better than the standard mocal cooler.

Standard:

Offset $9 more

I wonder if there's a way to use this with the OEM Forester oil cooler (sandwich plate)

I don't think so, cause the only in and out of the OEM is water no oil. 2nd sandwich for the oil maybe.

FYI Unfortunately this doesn't work on a turbocharged setup.

I installed this same setup in my BRZ last weekend.

Preface:
The car has the PTuning turbo kit and a Koyo radiator. I've been tracking the car and am looking for a solution to keep my oil temps down. I've seen 300ºF oil temps and 240ºF water temps at the track when running with no oil cooler.

The good:
When cruising with ambient temps in the 70s, water temp remained between 189º-195ºF and oil temp around 195º-200º. This was much better than the 215º+ I saw from just cruising without the oil cooler. On warmer days, oil temps while cruising could be in the 225º+ range with no oil cooler.

The bad:
The moment I get on the throttle and build boost, the oil temps would shoot upwards, just like before. While cruising with the oil temps at 200º and getting on the throttle, I would see the oil temps shoot up to 220º+. With spirited driving in the mountains, I would easily see sustained 235º oil temp along with 212º water temp.

The ugly:
Today, with ambient temps in the 95º-100º, I did some testing in the mountains. I kept it in 2nd gear to keep the revs high and was on and off the boost, but never WOT (not trying to fall off any cliffs). Within 5 minutes of this type of thrashing, the oil temp went from 235º to 260º+. Water temps started to rise along with it as well.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like this unit has the capacity to handle the heat generated from a turbo car.

One thing i have found with my oem sandwich plate cooler implementation is running the heat (on max, vents pointed out the window) helps with lowering the oil temps ssince you are removing heat from the system.

It isnt a huge difference, but its evident on my scangauge dueing a track session and while cooling down in paddock.

PTuning announced its Laminova cooler for pre-order with delivery the end of July 2014.

Link to catalogue page

http://www.ptuning.com/subdir/itemde...&ModelDesc=BRZ

Difficult to determine, but kit appears to use the middle-sized Mocal heat exchanger.

The heat has to go somewhere. With just the laminova system, the heat goes into the water, but the engine's overall cooling capacity is not increased at all. Since the system also doesn't add a significant amount of oil, you also don't increase the capacity to absorb heat. This system would make more sense when coupled with a bigger radiator and some method of increasing the oil volume, like a larger oil pan or in-line oil tank. The oil to air radiators combine cooling and oil volume in one package, but they take up space. There's also the integrated oil and water radiators like what Robispec sells. Those are elegant, but they take up space where some FI kits want room. Hours of fun!

@jsimon7777, I have a Koyo radiator with added foam and ducting to direct the flow of air to the radiator (and also a big intercooler in the path ). I'll be trying an air-to-oil cooler next.

How much HP are you running? How about adding a bigger oil pan too? You just need bigger everything! May be some ducting so all the coolers aren't in the same path. You could keep the laminova for quick warm up and not worrying about overcooling the coil. It's not like running a constant 6krpm in 2nd gear is a normal way of driving. Not much air going through the coolers, but a lot of heat being generated.
