Yup. I'm in with @Khyron686.

Meaty, in my opinion, is the ratio of tire to wheel in diameter.

if sidewall is all you care about then by your standards a 215 would be meaty if its 50 sidewall. those are balloons.

meaty is a combination of both in my opinion. width above 255 with appropriate sidewall on appropriate width wheel....but i guess cars that run a 315 in the rear just aren't meaty.

Appropriate sidewall is key.

275/35/19 is not meaty in my opinion. not at all.

Do i think a 245/40/17 is meaty?

yes I do, on a twin. Maybe not on a Nissan Maxima, but on a small car like a twin, 245/40/17 is defintely meaty.

Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt your "255+ only tire" thread. Thought I was in the "Meaty Tire Thread".

My bad. Guess I'm the asshole here.

215/70r15 - I'd call it meaty.

225/50r16 - delicious.

those are called balloons.

make a balloon tire thread.

all joking aside its just a difference of opinion....that 911 SC is super nice. doesn't really matter if you post in here or not, the more the merrier, i'm sure others want to see what you have to post, but just so you know, your' train of thought isn't what the majority thought is about "meat". no ones gets a 215/50 and posts a photo palming that tire....

just for sake of argument, google "meaty tire" and click images. i'm going to bet that its not what you posted, but closer to what the rest of the thread has been posting....

Jive... did you google "meaty tire"?

Because, there are plenty of pictures that look like the pictures Khyron posted.

yes i did, and what do you know, majority are WIDE tires no one with just big sidewalls.

notice majority look to be 255+. its really a pointless argument at this point, maybe we should poll the forum

maybe i should rename this to the "wide tire" thread, and you guys can go start the balloon sidewall thread.

Never said a 255+ wasn't a meaty tire.

Just that 255+ isn't a pre-requisite for a meaty tire.

Wide Tire Nation:

275/25R20

345/25R20 !!!!!!!

If only there was a measurement on the tire, that expresses the ratio of width to sidewall....

I tease, I know what you're after, but if you need to read the tire measurement to know its meaty factor, that's not a good way to do it.

Meaty CRX - even though it's only a 195 wide tire.

My favorite meaty/not-balloon size on the twins is 235/45r17 - just looks so nice. But I didn't want to deal with the slightly slower accel.

I think this is either a silly argument, or a bad example of what you're after. A 275/35r19 and a 245/40r17 have almost the exact same size sidewall. Off by 0.1". Or are you talking more specifically about sidewall as a percentage of overall diameter?

I had a setup I chose not to post, because the first post specifically states 255+ and they were 245s. That next set though....

Meaty is subjective term...OP originally said 245....A lot of these wide tires still look like rubber bands.....
