Can we stop this silly trope? The designer makes the full design of the car, engineers decide if it will fit over the hard parts, slip through the air, and actually be able to be built. Then they iterate until the design is finalized. I know you are being facetious, but this line has been repeated so many times that I think people are starting to believe that there is a guy in a cubicle designing the visuals of the front of a car and another guy doing the rear. It just comes down to looks are subjective. Engineers and designers have to compromise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I fully understand how the design process really works. There is not ONE designer but indeed a team of many with some big name as the head. Yes they communicate. Designs are made on public trend, surveys and input. They are not pulled out of one guys ass. The majority of this forum believes they know far more about cars than the engineers that designed them, the people that market them and and the techs that work on them. Every single thing that gets changed on the car involves some sort of compromise to make it "better" and the "Engineers don't know shit" trope is perpetuated. I used the trope because it accurately describes how I feel about that abomination. I will continue to use trope, cliche, exaggeration, irony and sarcasm as I see fit. If people take everything as fact and can't see blatant trope when the read it then it just confirms that they will believe anything. When this forum reaches the point where it is restricted to fact, fact, and only fact then I hope both the members that are still here enjoy it.

"Do something" could mean anything from deliver small-to-moderate downforce or aero, to "transform car into rear-biased race car" I mean, even the 86's $700 OEM faux-diffuser probably does provide some benefit, right? |

the TRD updates are pretty cool and I especially like that wing on the camry.
my concern is that toyota has made it very clear that "TRD" means no extra power...trd 86, trd pro, etc...so probably safe to say the rumors about the Supra having a more powerful TRD version are bullshit. |

For $700 it should be a full on diffuser. That's partly why I get grumpy about it. Racing development my ass.

sure but either way they ain't bringing any GR/GRMN models here, TRD would throw a huge sissy fit....no GRMN 86, Yaris, etc. Plus I thought GR/GRMN was made specifically for EU & Asia (considering the Nurburgring reference..), markets where the TRD brand never became big.

They made comprehensive mechanical improvements with previously approved certifications and turned a grocery getter into something special. Aesthetics are personal but TRD pulled a rabbit out of a hat on this one. |
