I think it's more of "you bought the wrong car". People who complain about it need to post their age, so we can see what perspective they are coming from.

I actually can't bear to read through all the posts as all of them feel like reiterated points we already know.

I think you really mean you are looking for a MORE compromised car, not less compromised car. If were are truly looking for a less compromised car than the FRS you would be looking at Lotus Elises and Ariel atoms...

See your point of view, but for me the FRS has turned the daily commute on "boring" normal roads into the absolute highlight of my day, no matter the weather condition or if it's been a good or bad day. Once I get into my FRS it's the best thing of the day and I chose the longest route to enjoy the experience as much as possible...it doesn't matter that the route is on 'normal roads, with Traction/VSC "off" even normal driving is a beautiful experience. I've done this every day since I've owned it and love it more now than when I first got it 2 years ago. I wish it got better fuel mileage but ~21 mpg average is not too bad...

The people complaining that this car is slow is driving the car all wrong! You're NOT suppose to drive it in a straight line. Turn on your blinkers and sway the car from left to right as you drive forward.

No, no, no. His arguments are legitimate as applied to his location. Have you ever been to Texas? Just one look and you'd kiss the green ground you came from upon returning. His argument is legitimate because he has no Columbia River Highway, route 30, Santiam pass, shall I dare say it, THE Mak pass OR, THE LEGEND aka forest service road 46. OOPSY maybe I should have kept that one our little secret.

How dare you take the name of Texas in vain!!

Actually, being we have thousands and thousands of miles of roadway and hilly and mountainous regions, there's bound to at least be some nice curvy roads based on statistics alone. There's quite a few in the Hill country (Central Texas) and Sabine national forest area (East Texas) I've been on....unfortunately not yet in my FRS.

The Toybaru is an automotive miracle, there is nothing else in the market now (or in the pipeline) that offers such a combination of high performance, economical (fuel consumption and maintenance), light weight, and functionality for well under US$30,000. However, I have a slightly different take on the Toybaru.

The basic Toybaru represents the lowest common denominator of a race-car that can be driven on public roads. (I know a really bare-bone version is also available in Japan.) It is not supposed to suit everyone’s requirement without any modification. It is a ready-to-mod platform so everyone can put in whatever he wants readily and without breaking the bank. Thanks to the enthusiastic response from the after-market suppliers, the possibility is endless.

It is OK to spend US$10k on modifications, as long as you know what exactly you want, and how to do it. Some want a little more power, and some want a lot more power. Some want it quieter, (so add more sound insulation), and some want it louder (so get a loud exhaust). And some like it stock.

There is no right or wrong. Who am I to tell anyone what is right or wrong? I would not judge on people’s different taste, even though sometimes it seems outrageous.

Yes, the interior cabin is tiny, the ride very choppy, and sound insulation almost non-existent. And there is ‘only’ 200 horsepower. We knew all that from the test drive on day 1. Stop bitching about this!

The real complaint about the Toybaru is not insufficient power (which can be increased readily), but its lack of basic quality. Problems big (eg CEL) and small (rattling everywhere) are never ending, and even growing. It is so disappointing that a joint-venture by Toyota and Subaru results in a car that seems, in terms of quality, to be assembled in China with fake FIAT parts.

I don't, only because when the one I have is worn out I want to be able to buy a new one.

It's the hype that has ruined this car for so many people. Everybody wanted it to be the perfect car for THEM. Unfortunately for those people, it's the perfect car for ME. After 9 months of ownership I've discovered all the faults and learned to accept them, because nowhere else can I get a car with:

RWD
NA motor
Manual transmission
Light weight
fantastic handling
Roof
Cloth seats
Back seat
Minimalist interior
Good fuel economy
and a warranty

My last car had a turbo with 3 times as much torque shredding the front wheels and I was never happy with it. I'm done with that, I've grown out of it. A Miata was my first choice, but I need a back seat for the kiddo and it's too damn hot in Texas for a convertible. Thank the gods of petrol this car exists, because if it didn't I'd be driving an Accord and taking antidepressants.

Not really what I meant, I'm sure you know this.

Any car will degrade if not driven. I'm saying Porsche service prices are targeted toward the checkbook of a guy who buys a $70K+ car, and the parts aren't cheap, either.

Quote:
Compared to a 300hp aftermarket FI Toyota that sees parts break from unintended stress? They're pretty cheap to maintain.
I think that remains to be seen, really, because you're simply imagining what parts break just as I am imagining what might go wrong on a 5-year-old Porsche that has seen less than 50K track miles.

Why aren't we all driving Caymans and Boxters then? You can pick one up for thousands less than you paid for your FR-S. Why don't you drive one?
