There was nothing else that met my requirements in this price range. Everything else was > $2K and I don't quite want to step into that game. I'd agree the value is strong in this one (let the frugality flow through you!). Requirements: forged frame, Made in USA, 9mm, stainless, target sights, 'match fit'.

It's still in jail for a while, but it had only one weird issue while I was playing with it at the shop: the slide appears to hold up just after the slide stop is released - this occurs when riding the slide, it fired 20 shots at the shop without any hiccups.

Exactly why we call it COTEP . You basically get the quality and fitment of an Ed Brown but for about half the cost and a smidge less pretty (hard to tell the difference, honestly), and with just as dead sexy of a trigger pull. For only a few hundred LESS you notice a definite drop in quality (such as with a S&W E-series or other reasonably nice 1911), which means that DWs are dead awesome for the price. Thus why we call ourselves "Enlightened" .

I think DW's secret is that they're low-volume producers, so they use mass-market techniques to keep the cost low, but low volume to have the time to do rigorous QC and making sure the tolerances are appropriately tight.

Unless something slipped past QC, you're going to LOVE that pistol. Chip McCormick mags run great in them, btw.

Yeah not sure what the slide issue is, but if it's only presenting itself when being misused then I don't care. Boys at the shop said if it still exists after several hundred rounds then it's likely an issue. We'll see.

I'd like to avoid the idiot scratch too, because I had a LOT of trouble putting the slide stop back in when I disassembled it at the shop (first time).

I picked up 1 of each of Wilson ETM, Dawson Precision (Metalform?), and Tripp Research 10rd 9mm mags. I only have the Wilson in hand and I'm not really seeing how it's going to prevent the top round from nosediving...

Having trouble putting the slide stop lever back in is like a right of passage with a 1911. It's not a defect, it's just part of the design.

I've had issues with wilson mags not wanting to drop free when empty, which is a problem b/c if I'm mag changing on a locked back slide, I don't need to waste time stripping out the recalcitrant empty mag before going for my mag pouch for the next one. Chip McCormick mags, however, have been fantastic.

It really depends on the gun. Yours being a 9mm will probably be different than my .45 V-Bob, though. Each 1911 seems to like specific mags, and by each, I mean each individual one, not just between manufacturers or models.

I just don't want to scratch a $1500 gun. It being called an 'idiot' scratch isn't helping either.

I had originally bought more Wilson mags, but decided to return them until I could properly test each different kind of mag to see which the gun likes the best. Research shows everyone has grievances about every mag, even the ones touted as being 'the best' have their detractors. The 9mm mags are pretty hit or miss especially - I don't believe CMC has 9mm mags.

There's a solution to that scratch, but it's pricey, but the equivalent in protection of getting your car cquartzed or optiguarded.

There's a company called Robar here in Phoenix that does Teflon electroless nickle coating on firearms that ads some serious protection to surfaces. The coating is called NP3 (they also have an even better one for better corrosion resistance) called NP3 Plus.

The work costs about as much as an axleback, but it'll let you run your gun almost dry (as in, with little lubricant) b/c of the self lubricating properties of the coating. It's a silvery-like color so it actually works well if you liked the stainless look.

On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.

I'll pass...I'll just be careful. And/or actually scratch it and not care.

Or you could spend $10 for three of these Idiot Scratch Prevention Tools:

And if you're really broke, just make your own using a playing card.

This picture warms my heart. So many nice pistols... and zero Glocks.

9mm M1911s are sacrilege, though. The ghost of JMB is going to come and haunt your house now.

Meant to say Josh Randal. When Steve Mcqueen used one in the TV series Wanted Dead Or Alive it was always at face to face distance (pistol dueling).

Used in a gunfight at pistol distance it usually has the advantage.

Ever notice the large size of the rifle cartridges on Steve's belt ? Almost 30.06 ! Looked like only 2 would fit in the mares leg mag tube LOL !

Saw that, looked overpriced.

Neither my bud nor I like the GLOCK brand GLOCKs.

9mm 1911s are great. It was his worked over Springfield Loaded that turned me on to them. Accurate as hell with laughable recoil compared to a polymer 9mm.
