Sounds like you need to find a good dealer to work with you & not against you.

The dealer that I got my BRZ from had a discounted 2013 on the lot when I was shopping and when I asked about it the sales guy said it was a customer buyback with a replacement engine.

All hearsay of course (who can trust the salespeople anyhow) but it would seem that they actually bought back this dudes car after he had a catastrophic failure.

So... here I am months later. Replacement was ordered, Toyota wanted a mileage offset. I declined the $ amt needed to complete transaction based on the fact that I paid for my first engine failure. Going to arbitration soon, anyone else have some failure service invoices that were covered under warranty you could fax me? I can pay for fax charges or time or whatever. Not a lot, because I'm extremely broke, but I'll do what I can to compensate you. NOTE: I've also had a top end failure in between/ related to the second motor failure. Heck, repeat visits for anything a tech screwed up will help me a lot. I am a bit concerned going up against the largest car mfr in the world... Plus, the advisers always make us look like horrible people on the toyota paperwork. I just need to prove my car is indeed a lemon.

27,000 Miles
5,000 miles on current oil change
Car reported being 2qts low when serviced
Found bad Rods,bearing,camshaft Etc
1 undocumented oil change
I have proof of purchasing oil used in last change
I now owe $7,000 to get my LEASED car back with a USED MOTOR
No leaks found

Am i supposed to check my oil level before every drive???

I checked my BMW at every fill-up. But then again it was 20 years old with 200k miles, and had a valve cover leak.

What failed (if you know)
Main bearings were "ovaled" and rod bearing making noise. No bearings spun, just "oval". I wasn't told which bearings specifically and the service manager didn't know. He did tell me that the oil smelled strongly of fuel.

Oil level was full at time of failure (I checked).

Mileage
42,000

How it failed
Started knocking after exiting a cloverleaf/off-ramp. It was a 270 degree turn so the oil may have been loaded to one side for a period of ~30 seconds. I was stuck behind a honda CRV, so I was not going fast. After 100 yards or so we came to a red light. After the light turned green and started accelerating, I heard the van next to me making some horrible noises. When I got away from it I realized it wasn't the van, but my car!

Circumstances when it went out- slow and gradual or just boom
Started knocking. Drove to the nearest dealership.
On my morning commute into work I did notice a moment of hesitation on the highway.

Results of warranty claim?
After a week-long battle, digging up records for all the services during my ownership, and contacting a lawyer, the shortblock was replaced.

And of course... modifications to the car, your use of the car
No modifications.

Last oil change
4k miles before failure, 38k miles.

List of services performed, IE, recent reflash etc.
0-26k miles, unknown service history.
26k service by hyundai/nissan dealership.
32k service done by me.
38k service by hyundai/nissan dealership (free oil changes for life?)
No reflashes. Tech did an update when shortblock was replaced.

FWIW
Temperatures had been below 32F for the majority of the month.
I bought the car in March of 2014 at 28k (26k according to dealership).

2-3 weeks before the engine failure. I am waiting for a Toyota case manager to call me back. She asked a few questions and I gave her accurate information on what had happened. I did mention seeing allot of information online regarding FRS motor failure. Yesterday when we spoke she said she will have a resolution by Friday.

You have amazing patience. By the fifth week, I would've been screaming to lemon it.
