If you can't accomplish it internally I can offer a reasonable consulting fee to complete the task.

Oh that would make a sweet reading work visa application.

Model? I want the real thing. Must be operational within 3 weeks and you have a budget of $2,000.

Software engineers make bank. Hardware, not so much. Mechanical, really not so much. Trades people can do well and make a good living, but their jobs are cyclical and they often don't have the educations to manage their own finances. I'd become a firefighter.

Ah, a change from the original requirement for "a drawing of a unicorn and rainbow". That's going to take a lot longer and cost you a lot more.

Disclaimer: We will not be responsible for schedule and cost increases due to last minute changes in customer requirements, but we will do our best to accommodate changes once the requirements are properly flowed down.

Change? You were supposed to know that it was a production ready version when I said drawing. Please let me know when it is 90% complete so I can totally change the original concept and say I want it 20% cheaper.

You're timeline is too long, in my industry, we get a request for a part monday afternoon, and it has to be ready to load on the transporter wed., or thurs. depending on where the track is. Yesterday I got the task around 1:00p.m., and had to have parts being produced by 7:00a.m., to be on the car this afternoon, and loaded tonight.

Vastly different than my time in the aerospace industry, where I could be working on the same design a year from now.

We are in the third year of trying to get a customer to approve a change to the thickness of the coating on a rotor from 50 to 40 microns. Three bloody years of daily emails for a .0004 inch change that will save them about $100K a year.

Requirements are like Redshirts. They never make it in one piece...

I have BS in Mechatronics. The issue with this degree is two folds.

1. Some companies that hire you won't know what you do with you. Every Mechatronics engineer I know does something different, whether they work in avionics, PLC systems, manufacturing, automotive, etc etc. I don't see a trend. This interdisciplinary aspect can make it difficult to get a particular type of job.

2. The diversity can be overwhelming. While academia can pin-point what Mechatronics is (A melting pot of computer/electrical/mechanical engineering), you will encounter fields that people believe you should know, that you'll need to learn along the way.

I like Mechatronics because it's interdisciplinary, which always keeps things interesting.

I also don't think you need to be all that good in math to be an engineering. You just need to be able to do it. There are millions of resources out there for help with mathematics, the only reason you can't learn it is because you really don't want to. The thing about me, is that i'm not smart at all, in fact my IQ is pretty low for what my capabilities are. But I work hard, which is what got me to where I am. Intelligence has nothing to do with getting the best paying job in engineering or getting a PhD, it's about what you know and what you can do.

I just wrapped up my masters in electrical engineering and am currently pursing a PhD in electrical engineering. But my research is biomedical with a focus on mechanical properties and some neural networking. With mechatronics you can wave that interdisciplinary flag.

Good contribution (for a low IQ person - ) to the thread.
