Anyways, this SC is nice, but after reading all the inputs, it totally negates what i thought i knew about SC. I always thought SC = instant power/ less wear on motor. TC = needs time to spool and THEN the big power boost hits/ more parts/ more wear on motor. Oh well.
this type of supercharger makes more power (or pressure) as RPM's climb.. so no, there is no instant power.

Twin scroll is not the same as twin screw.

Twinscroll pertains only to the turbine housing of a turbo. It divides the pulses for more even pairing to improve the efficiency of the turbine. This will help with response, but it is really marginal until larger turbos are used.
That's what I meant was twin screw. Oops.

Any other positive displacement blower. Centrifugal type boost pressure increases with engine speed. They are however typically more efficient. They make decent top end as max pressure is achieved at or around redline; but lack bottom end torque because boost is low. Nature of the beast ...

Google types of sc and read some more.

Ummm....all superchargers make more boost the faster they turn, ergo all of them make more boost the faster the engine spins. Positive-displacement types make some boost almost instantly, which cents will never do, but they all still make more when turning faster. They're all air pumps, after all.

Regarding centrifugals - that used to be the stereotype of turbos too, but modern implementations don't have to be that way. You can size them for max boost at low speed and simply bypass when the limit is reached.

Yes and no. A positive displacement supercharger is going to make more torque low and mid range than a centrifugal type.

A cent can have a bypass to bleed but then you are moving it out of its efficiency range as the rpm of the blower will eventually be too high.

I thought you were seriously asking me a question. If you feel like you already know the answer than move on. Certain people actually want a cent. because the boost curve is linear. That's why we are reading this thread and not surprised at the lack of torque from a cent. We like its efficiency and n/a like power delivery.

Did you read this excellent response?

My response was to projectd's question about instant power. In which he means torque.
Adios.

I was. You said that cents make more power the faster they turn, implying that that was a distinguishing characteristic.

I was genuinely curious if there was a type that doesn't, since I wasn't aware of any.

I did not. Re-read what I typed or look at boost and torque curves of different types of superchargers.

Torque is low on a cent. Therefore people looking for "instant power" should look at a roots or twin screw (positive displacement).
