I'm thinking the hand-made-ness and limited production numbers is due to ongoing supply issues since the earthquake/tsunami.
Subaru had to postpone the Impreza here, I believe. The hand-made limited numbers may just be a stop gap, to not piss us all off with a delay, since the factories are already having trouble with the volume (money making) models.

If the Toyota version ends up being limited and the Subaru doesn't then it's a contract issue between Toyota and Subaru, nothing else.

Not enough info to draw any useful conclusions. 1,000/yr in Japan doesn't mean it's 1,000/yr for stateside.
Gotta remember the sports coupe market is all but dead in Japan. Hence over there it'd be a lot more of a niche car there. Here coupes still have a lot of staying power. So production could be a lot greater here. If it's anything less than 10,000 units a year here then I think there's going to be quite a bit of supply storage. |

No offense but it doesn't make sense that they have a car they want tuner companies to invest in but have a limited production on the number of cars. How can any company justify investment into the 86 if the market size is a MAX of 1000 per year??

There is NO way they will only make 1000 of these a year, with all the advertising, hype, leaks, on an affordable car to be 1000 units? Noway! I could see it if it was the LFA since most people cant afford it.
They would also not have so many varients, Different Aero kits, Lighting, seating, It just doesnt make sense for a car of this class to be limited production with the way it is being marketed. I mean look at how many 86's were at the press release, If they were doing a limited production car I highly doubt they would have that many 86's floating around for it. Maybe for an initial launch only 1000 cars, but It doesnt make sense from a business point of view to make 1000 a year. |

yeah it simply doesnt make sense With that said... Toyota "employees" could be talking about for the 2012 year only. Usually with a "niche" market such as sports coupe, especially in Toyota's case and in combination that it is sharing assembly line with Subaru version.... Production can possibly be limited (per model) to 1000. It could also mean, they are testing the market and have a "change" already in place that is ready to be implemented within 12 months of release, hence they are limiting it to low supplies at the moment..... sounds like hog wash I know but I'm trying to justify why 1000 units PER YEAR.... thats just twice the amount of LFAs which cost 20 times more and has materials that takes 4-5 times longer to manufacture (carbon fiber chassis etc). |

I'm feeling all of those colors except the orange. I've owned 2 black cars before and even though black looks so nice when fully polished, it's a pain to keep clean.
I'll never buy a black car...I'm all about that white!
