I was still averaging 27 miles. I took the weight out when ever the roads were finally cleared of snow and ice, and no snow storms in the forecast... that's why I decided to put the sand in light weight tool box.

I like Blizzaks, but I picked up some Firestone Winterforce tires because they were so much cheaper and they performed beautifully here in Minnesota. Really comes down to budget, I think Blizzaks are probably the better tire, but the Winterforce tires more than got the job done for a lot less.

27 is still good, this car is really impressing me fuel consumption wise!

Snow + FRS = Match made in heaven. Drove it all winter on good snow tires and I never had a single problem, always in control.

I absolutely need snows. I'm really debating on if I should mount on the stock rims or buy some steel to use for the winter... If I were to go with steel, does anyone recommend an alternate width/diameter that may provide improved performance in the snow?

For the price steelies cost... I would mount on your stock wheels and put the money you were gonna pay for the steelies towards a nicer wheel for the summer. And if you don't want the TPMS light on the whole time, you'll need a new set of sensors to.

17" steelies are 72 bucks a pop.

What kind of tires and rim size did you mount on them?

Went with general altimax. Didn't really have a problem in deep ass Chicago snow.

Sent via my mind using telekinesis.

16" steelies that my friend had on a celica. Tires are BF Goodrich Winter Slalom, they have a very shitty sidewall (they're balloony) but wear very slowly and have GREAT grip in the snow. 4th car I use them on and never been stuck.

I would also like to +1 getting dedicated snow tires. I drove all winter with the stock tires, and it was not a pleasant experience. My poor FR-S was getting stuck in the most unfortunate places

I have had great success with General Altimax Arctic. Never let me down on previous cars. This winter I'll be getting 16" steelies with these tires.

Took the plunge! After saving up enough pennies and waiting a lot, I got it. You guys surely gave me the confidence to drive her on snow (or be able to!) and thanks for that! \

So now to the main point! Definitely planning to get snow tires for her, but not decided between getting steelies or just replacing them on the stock wheels. What do you guys recommend? Also, if I do change to steelies, wouldn't I need to install new TPMS sensors too?

just wanted to second this. ran blizzaks for a full year(i was gonna get summer tires, just never happened), and the next winter was no better than all seasons even though the tires still had 75% tread left. i ran them into the next spring and they started acting like cheap slippery all-seasons by the time i replaced them with 60-68% tread left...

i've been told by an alberta, can guy that dd's a modded g35 that the nokians are the best in snow, and their tread depth doesn't change their performance as drastically as the blizzaks.
