According to Jalopnik today, the Turbo FRS and soft top are no more.

I am glad one of them finally came out and said that the turbo version of the twins is not financially viable. Not a whole ton of people are going to pay $30k+ for a car with the build and interior quality of the FRZ.

I'll just leave this right here...

Ha! Fair enough. So then I wonder how many people on here would still want a turbo version of the FR-S if it cost ~$35k? Especially since you would think that the price differential between the base and STi version might be even more significant than on the WRX. Just thinking that it has to cost quite a bit more for a company to add a turbo to an NA engine than to upgrade an already turbo'd model. Granted, I am not sure how much, if any, of the engine parts are shared between the base WRX and STi.

That's the $64,000 question. There's going to be a lot of us that decide on FI setups for our cars. Add the cost of the turbo/SC and all of the typical upgrades that go along with it (cooling, brakes, suspension, etc...) you're in the $7k - $10k range. Personally another 100hp with a warranty would make me very happy

Are there enough of us to put this into production? Who knows!?

I hope so. Obviously a 3JZ swap will be the next step after the mandatory 2JZ swap in all of our cars.

Yeah the title says "Says FR-S Turbo and Cabrio Axed"....

As far as the tranny goes I think crawford has done many race days with their turbo BRZ and never had an issue with the tranny.

Personally, I'm not about speculation but that does make sense.

They specify the Scion is being axed for tubro and cabrio. It doesn't say the Toyota or Subaru versions will be. They'll likely still make them available for the places with the Toyota and Subaru version. Many of us called this, many times, when they announced it'd be a Scion in North America. This is why the car should not have been a Scion. It's price bracket is too high for Scion. We're getting shafted, again, as we knew we would. Should have been a Toyota.

DylanFRS, I and a few others were willing to pay 30k+ for the Toyota 86 GT Limited version, without a turbo. As a Toyota, it would have had the option to be more expensive than the Scion and less expensive than the Scion, depending on what trim was purchased. Giving it to Scion was a terrible mistake on Toyota's part. The single model with no options thing is destroying the future expansion of the car in North America.

Cool to see some official info on that front. I had a feeling when i heard rumors about this collaboration that it would be towards the Supra, maybe developing a flat 6 engine? Twin turbo? Or my dream would be if they just put in ITB's on the flat 6... Mmmmmm
There's been rumors about Toyota working with BMW on a new Supra for a while now. I highly doubt it'd be a flat 6 though, that's not what BMW does. BMW's thing has been straight 6's and seeing as the Supra shared that, that's likely what it'll end up with.

Man... at $30k, the 370Z sure would be hard to turn down.

A base 370Z, here, is $40,978. You have to keep in mind the differences between the FR-S and 86 GT Limited too (see the link in my sig.)
