Which sound do you want? You likely won't get that deep throaty tone with the 2.0L vs. a V8, but I think you can get that smooth high rev wail. You can get some of the deepness by removing as much muffling as you can stand. An unequal length header will offer some down low deepness and burble and that V8 lope (-ish, not really) but it doesn't sound quite as 'full throttle' at the high rpm range.

Unfortunately you will have to just dive right in, youtube sound clips will only get you so far but the important thing is to stick with equal length if you want that smooth high-revving exhaust scream.
If you can find an 86 meetup locally that will probably be your best bet to hear them in person and get a feel for what you want. Don't know how active Tennessee is though...

I think that old video of the ACE at Laguna is the best sell on it for sounding like a high end screaming engine, the 12:30+ in the Ferrari video or right at the start.

However I think any Equal Length can get similar sound qualities at a much lower price point if you don't have a big budget or don't care about every last pony.

Edit: random unequal length header vid for comparison, throatier, a bit less smooth, but if that's what you actually want then that's the way to go.

Hell maybe just a cheap muffler delete will do the trick depending on what you actually like.

How to get THIS exhaust sound

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for, some clear differentiation between header/exhaust types. You've helped enormously.

I have the ACE cs 400. I had it paired with the Greedy Evo3, however with silencers in, as I would like to keep my ear drums in good condition for the next few years.
If you go down the Y set up, dual canister, make sure you get something that has a loop: MXP, the new Invidia 2.75, Amuse titanium R. Alternatively, you can add a Helmholtz resonator in to tone down the rasp that a EL header will give you!

I have the MXP atm and it sounds really really good. and no silencers

That's the stock RS1.0 catback. You're hearing the engine itself in that video.

That does sound nice! Wonder how it works?

And I was able to find it, technically on our shores, but not in our country. Here's a video of a drive in Toronto (don't ask how I figured that out) in an FR-S outfitted with this system. Poster quotes the price as $2850 US.
Purchased through SR Auto Group Vancouver , BC.

Found this after some digging:

Yes, OP does need that. Unfortunately, OP can't afford one of the valve covers on that motor, let alone the full swap.

So, OP works with what OP has..

If you don't want to dive into headers/ECU tuning and don't mind single-exit, just the Tomei 60S exhaust alone provides a pretty exotic sound:

I also like the Touge Factory single-exit Sport cat-back (revving starts at 0:58):

Do you have any videos of this setup? I’ve got a Greddy SP and am debating on adding the front pipe. Mostly worried about drone.
