I could've sworn this was covered in class when I was in school.

If not than what would be the purpose of fans kicking on when the engine/car was off when I had severe overheating issues in my old R53 mini and Mk4 GTI? And what would the purpose of turbo timers be if running fans after the car is off is unnecessary?

Only reason why I'm asking is because I plan on doing engine supporting mods first before I go to the power adders. So in my mind the entire Velox AOS kit (AOS, coolant, and cam plate drainback) along with the Jackson racing dual radiator. To give me peace of mind that my motor will be operating at ideal parameters for how hard I drive my cars on a regular basis.

Then I can start thinking about either the NA package or FI, which I'm heavily leaning towards the NA package and moving on to the JSRC when I'm bored with NA
Thermosiphoning is real but insignificant in a car. The rate of flow is way too low.

Fan on when you're "on" but not running? Either AC is on, or your coolant temp is over the "fan on" threshold. That threshold and trip doesnt care if your engine is running or not.

PM when you're ready to order.

What about cars that kick the fans on without the keys even in it? A couple minutes after parking my 02 911 Turbo it'll kick the fans on. Really confused the hell out of me when I heard a noise in my garage the first time it happened.

I don't know enough about 996 to say. You may have some unwanted aftermarket electronics in the car.

Most often i've seen cars with turbos to do that, for example on collegue's wrx. It seemed very wierd for fans to kick in on parked/locked car but it was there. I guess it's about need to cool off something to make it last longer, but too lazy to google about as none of my cars were turbo or shown such behaviour it just feels weird when you notice for first time, changing nothing to usability.

There was a period where it was designed into cooling systems but like Mike said, the effect is insignificant and eventually we got over it.

More detriment to leaving a lead acid battery partially discharged overnight, IMO.

Turbo timers left the car running without the key in the ignition, so the engine could still circulate oil through the turbo to help prevent "coking" in the housing.

In most modern water cooled turbos, it's not necessary unless say you just got through pounding the car at max load and shut it straight off.

Don't forget that some cars have electric water pumps, so they can be operational after you turn off the engine.

Yes, but very, very few. Off hand I can't think of any outside of some German models (or stuff I can't afford).

Well not that I could afford a new Porsche either.

Anyone shipping these out of the USA for a reasonable price? Jackson Racing quoted me $600 shipping!

So I finally installed my JR Dual Radiator/Oil Cooler. Huge thanks to Counter Space Garage for putting up with all my questions! Highly recommend them if you are after any parts, @CSG David was great at communicating even with the huge time difference.

Here is what I have learned:
  • I found the JR Dual Radiator/Oil Cooler easier to insert than pulling the OEM radiator out.
  • The lower AN fitting on the radiator does not have to be attached prior to placing the radiator in the car as per instructions (but it would have made life easier to follow those instructions). You will want to make sure the radiator doesn't fully sit down into the holder to be able to tighten it.
  • The lower radiator hose was a PITA, read the instructions and use some lube!
  • After consulting with @CSG Mike I have decided to purchase some new 20mm foam and place it around the radiator. Looks like OEM now and should help improve efficiency.
  • The avoiding kinks in the oil lines involved A LOT of cursing. I tried about 5 times to fit the lower line without kinks and it didn't work. I looked at it and went, hmm if only this could be rotated by a few degrees it would be perfect. I am not strong but just with my bare hands, I tried to twist the 90 degree AN fitting a bit, seems to have worked, perfect fitment, no kinks!

Photos should be in same order as above bullet points.

Funny thing about that. I cut a bit off OEM foam and well it's not really that temperature resistive and it's quite flammable. Caught on fire straight away and just kept burning and burning.

So I just got some foam and with my basic "light it on fire" test it behaved the same as the OEM stuff.

If I can be bothered I can do a proper temperature comparison test at work between the two materials, but basically, OEM stuff is just regular foam so I just went with that.

In case anyone was wondering, this radiator does _not_ fit the stock 2017 MT Airbox and will require switching to a 2013-2016 airbox or going to an aftermarket solution.

Jackson Racing (edit for precision) stated they have not released the 2017 solution yet, but that's the current situation.
