Since the only real differences are a badge, a bumper and some options I don't think being a "Toyota" guy really applies here.

Seeing "Subaru" stamped into everything kinda ruins that huh?

Anyone who pays $1,100 for a catback is silly. $1,200 for better wheels, struts, and Brembos is a bargain.

I think you guys have done it. Going to test drive the BRZ wednesday. I felt pretty good about the 26.3k price (before CA taxes and fees). I am fully expecting them to bombard me with protection plans, paint films and ash tray upgrades last minute.. is there anything from the dealer to protect the paint that is cost effective? Really I just would like a clear bra or something on the front end since its such a low car.

What have you guys done?

Clear bra and/or opticoat would be better then whatever the dealer offers in terms of "paint protection". Unless you have their third party do a clear bra or something.

Good plan!

What have I done with the three low cars that I have purchased new (MGB, Miata and FR-S) to protect the paint ..??

Just kept them waxed......

Hey, they are CARS that are to be driven on the road ...... patina happens .....

The orange stitching on the 860 interior is horrendous to me. The exterior color is as well. But if you're getting white, that's not a concern.

I'd go for the BRZ because of the brakes, but if all you're doing is driving A to B, the brakes really don't matter.

BRZ PP without a doubt. Gap insurance and clear bra if you are really concerned about the front end getting nicked up.

Hey OP, take it from someone who was in the exact same shoes (you gave me athlete's foot). I wanted the 86 so bad because I love the front end as well as the toyota badges and the legacy they carry. I got the BRZ because there is no comparison in what you get for the small additional money. Also, the BRZ front end has grown on me and I'm so much in love with this car. The only bad aspect of this car was the purchase process, I could not have picked a worse salesman and dealer, they played every game in the book to try and get as much money from me as possible, but that's another story I won't discuss here.

After that whole ordeal, I'm enjoying the best driving car I've owned, and my first brand new car too. You won't regret it.

while the pp is awesome, if i was in this dilemma i would choose the 86 as i prefer the front end to the brz's..imo it is hard to justify how beneficial the upgrades are for a dd. of course if ya care about performance (track, autox, etc) then the brz pp hands down.
