Convert NA FA20 to FA20DIT in the WRX
Is this possible? I know anything is possible with money but would it be cost effective and could it be done easily. I haven't really seen anyone on here actually go into an in-depth conversation about it. Heres some comparison pics. Right away i notice the exhaust manifold comes out the other side, there could be a conflict with top mount and the suspension bracing. Just wanting to have a conversation about it.

While the idea is not horrible... its your money.
The best thing about the fa20dit in the WRX is that its a factory turbo. If you just wanted to slap on a twin scroll turbocharger on it, a custom kit would probably be cheaper. |

The manifold and turbo might fit, depending on clearance from the rad. The TMIC would never fit under the hood of an 86. You would need to make your own FMIC setup. I can't really tell, but is there an oil pump on the back of the passenger side cam like the AVO kit?
It might be worthwhile to start checking to see if oil pan P/N's match up also. The front of the DIT looks way cleaner without all those idlers to route the belt away from the throttle body inlet

It has been brought up in depth a few times. I can't seem to find the main thread though, it's very old at this point.
The 20DIT is meant to attach to an AWD Subaru transmission so the bell housing is different, and the starter is on the other side of the motor. It looks like there is a place on the FA20 block where you could machine it out and attach a starter but it would take some work. It's definitely not worth the time and effort. You'd be much better off buying a FBM shortblock and slapping on one of the FI kits. |

THe major difference between the FA20DIT and FA20DI is the turbo (obviously) starter placement (driverside on turbo passenger on ft86) and compression (10.5:1 vs 12.5:1)
there are other differences but to answer your question, yes its possible, not it would not save you any time or money to do this. If factory subby is what your after go AVO, if cheap is your route, go SBD (they ripped off greddy so its really inexpensive) |

What about mounting the FA20DIT manifold onto the FA20 block? Not sure how the overripe would clear the steering rack/column, but there are RHD 86's that have to deal with that

You forgot the fuel injection system. The FA20 uses the Toyota D4-S with port and direct injection. The FA20DIT uses Subaru's direct injection only setup. I think the FA20 fuel injection system is superior.

The 86 subframe has identical contours for the overpipe on both sides. It may very well fit, though on the automatic LHD car the ATF cooler is in the way. I'm not really sure if the RHD cars run the exhaust around the other side or not.

the WRX doesn't have an overpipe, the exhaust runs under the subframe:

These might become good swap candidates in the future or good cheap starter turbo setups, as more 2015 wrx's end up in the junk yard, but at the moment, it would be way cheaper to get a pre-existing kit. Hell, I've got a custom turbo kit on my car, and if I could do it all again, I'd probably just buy a kit to spare me from the hassle.

I think the big issue will be the turbo will sit to low. our engine mounts are many inches lower then other subarus.
