Also tried looking for it on craigslist and autotrader, couldn't find any in my area, you guys know of any other way to find one besides driving around looking for one at a private dealership.
Those are probably the best places to look. You should be able to find a 91-93 240sx with working A/C for about $2k - $3k....and those prices are kind of high. I bought my first s14 about 10 years ago for $5500...prices really seem to have stayed the same though. If you are mechanically inclined, then it may be easier to build up a chassis yourself. Sometimes it is easier to find a cheap rolling chassis than the full car.

But unless you have a lot of money to spend on tires (and maybe bumpers and powertrain parts, depending on how hard you push your car) combined with a need to show off to other people, it's useless if you're not in an actual drift competition or in an actual rally race (which you wouldn't do in this car anyway, though the lines that rally drivers take through a corner are very different from the lines that a drifter would take, because it's speed vs. style).
I think you miss the point...it's not a need to show off, it is fun as hell. I think that watching drifting is actually pretty boring, but driving is great. Racing is exact and stressful...you have your time or car to beat, and then you put everything into doing just that. Drifting is driving with all rules thrown out the window...the only way you can really lose is if you crash. Not quite sure why somebody had to turn it into a competition.

I understand what you mean, but you can apply what you said to either driving style. While racing can be stressful, most people who do it are still having a fun time, since you're just trying to go as fast as possible, not necessarily staring at a clock the entire time. Drifting can be exact and stressful too, if you are trying to be fancy and drift with barriers around you or if you're doing tandem drifts (since it's harder to change your line mid-drift if the other person messes up compared to if you're just cornering normally). I appreciated it a lot more around ten years ago or so, but I still definitely acknowledge the amount of skill involved since it's not easy to do in such a controlled manner.

But obviously driving is always going to beat watching every time... not sure why that comparison was brought up.

I am definitively serious about learning. I'd love to learn from you.

Now I begin my quest on finding a 240sx or miata for a decent price in my area.

Also I plan to do professional racing as a hobbie.

If you feel like a trip to sunny Florida, I just noticed this on craigslist while fulfilling my own curiosity about how much 240s are going for these days:
http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/3045371274.html

That thing looks like a 1992 time machine!

Wow that looks like its in pretty good condition, but pretty far out ~.~

I'm considering http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/3045238897.html at the moment though.

Dude, I have driven a couple of the autos, but was not in an environment where I could drift them. I bought a manual tonight, and it is rediculously easy to slide, and its by far the easiest car to control in a drift of any I have driven. The manual is better, but the auto is good enough that I bet you could drift one with only a little more practice.

Having said that, I have a HUGE empty parking lot at my shop and some prior experience with stupid car tricks - this is NOT something you want to learn on public streets or close to cars, buildings, poles, etc. You want a huge open area with no obstacles and no cars.

Because "professional racing" costs like you would not believe. Hell, even serious amateur racing costs like crazy.

Grats on the car man!
Where is your shop? I noticed you bought yours at Fort Bend Toyota. That's about 30 mins away from me.

Ah, I knew it would cost a bit, but didn't think it would be that costly. There's always autocross !

^this! Seriously, you won't survive just been pro drifter. Even well known Drift King, he doesn't live only drifting. He's an great grip driver (specially late braking).

You gotta have another job or in another race (like rally). Cuz every penny gonna go to tires & those tires will be gone faster than you can earn it

We are out in Sealy - about 1 1/2 miles south of I-10 on FM 3538 - its about 6 miles from Hennesy's and Lone Star Motorsports Park as the crow flies.

We will probably be dyno testing the FR-S tomorrow night to get some baseline numbers if you want to come check it out.
