I'm sticking with the stock tires until the treads are all worn out. Its easy to lose grip with the tires if you're a heavy on the pedals. The weather in Vancouver is similar to Seattle so just take it easy and don't speed in heavy rain and drive safely.

If you're really set on all season tires, the Pilot 3s are great tires. Conti DWS is also fantastic, but has a pretty soft sidewall for its class. But if you want an all season tire that leans more towards snow traction than hot, dry traction, the DWS is great.

Stock tires for me as well. I haven't lost traction once when not trying to. It's handled heavy rains (yesterday was pouring and the brz was fine even at 80mph) and I even used the summer tires this winter in well below freezing temps.

As long as it's not snowing or icy I'm completely confident in the brz in poor conditions.

Thanks all! Went and test drove the BRZ today in the pouring rain and it was actually quite confidence inspiring! Great on the highway, even when dropping it to 4th full throttle while doing 70. I did get a little sideways in an empty traffic circle, got a little pucker factor going. Going to sleep on this decision but I might be signing on this baby tomorrow!

I drove from Baltimore MD, to Canada a few weeks ago and it was raining hard, for most of the drive and I still maintained 75mph avg with the exception that it was raining so hard at one point I had the wipers going as fast as they could and I still couldn't see and traffic slowed a little bit but no big deal. Very confidence inspiring to drive a car this planted.

Should be fine in the rain, just keep the nannies (sport mode and traction control) on.

Also, better tires would be safer, plus if you look at it one way, it's an excuse to get another set of rims.

Had winter tired on my BRZ. I got stuck a few times this winter it wasn't fun. Rain wasn't an issue at all -- ever.

Do it... DOOOO EEEEIT! In all seriousness, it's a great daily driver. As far as weather conditions, driver skill does play a role, but having the right equipment makes a huge, huge difference.

Good luck with the decisioning.

This is kinda gross but I woke up twice this winter to discover I had to drive. The first time(I live on a Drive), was dry snow and did a 2 point turn and managed to get to my destination. The next time the snow was wet and had to get up a hill that took me over 20minutes to get up as it was kinda scary making it to church before donations. So, once you have momentum you have to take an unusual throttle application with traction control on.

(In case you're wondering, my "sensible" alternative is a CX-5. Not really interested in a WRX.)
I live in Portland - just drove my new BRZ up to Seattle last night and back today. It was a torrent last eve. Smooth as silk. Hit some giant puddles around Tacoma in the fast lane - straight through them although I could feel the tires planing a bit. I would watch deep snow because it is so low - not the traction but plowing and messing up my front end -- That's why my other car is a Wrangler. Handled like a gem over Tiger pass and on the highway. Barely noticed the wet surface.

This said - I used to drive a WRX and the all wheel is a bad weather killer for sure.

Honestly, I'm not sure why so many people complain about the stock tires' rain performance.
I turn off my traction control and VSC all the time, but I've never kicked the tail out without doing it intentionally (if you're taking a 90 deg turn, do not mash the gas if you're in 2nd).

That being said, I will be picking up a set of Pilot Super Sports soon.

But the stock tires aren't the plague everyone makes them out to be (of course, once it gets colder, you definitely want to get a set of winter tires - even if it isn't snowing yet)

This one time. I drove into a tornado and ended up in OZ.

I drifted the YOLO brick road, got props from the wizard. he sent me back to Canada where I went to Tims and got a medium double double and hard parked with like 4000 sloots.

Good car in bad weather.
