BRZ Blown engine question

Took my 2013 BRZ into a shop Ive had done suspension work on before. Day came to pick it up & I get an early call that I need to come in, the motor has mechanical issues.. well basically the engine blew (there is a hole in the block). The shop is claiming mechanical fuel pump failure and the engine went lean while being test driven & blew. He attributes this to laptop readouts on tuning & engine feedback.

The car had 20,540 miles when I took it into the shop, no prior fuel issues that I was aware of. He claims there was a recall, which Ive found both on this forum, youtube & paperwork he gave me. Called Subaru there's no recalls for my VIN & they claim recalls are VIN specific. Besides the fact adding turbo just voided the warranty, but just to rule out an OBVIOUS prior problem. There was no chirping/crickets.

His solution is I buy a new engine & he'll install fr free labor.. my dilemma.. Was this all a fluke mistake or is it suspicious for abuse/mis-tuning? Should the shop be fully responsible or is this arrangement fair?

DO NOT spend a dime of your own money. Have that fucker buy you a new engine, and take your business elsewhere. I wouldn't let them touch my car again.

Wait, but you are in Florida.

Shall we venture a guess as to the name of the tune shop?

What exactly was this shop doing for you at the time? If they blew your engine road testing it while tuning it, they should be on the hook for fixing it.

What was being done: Treadstone turbo kit (borg warner EFR), mishimoto oil cooler, deatschwerk 300cc fuel pump, grimmspeed AOS, tuning.

The day I was to get the car he said needed the full day just to finalize it, I took some pictures & we went for a spin around the block, car seemed okay, no leaks but he was concerned about the boost. Got back to the shop he was tweaking the wastegate & on his laptop. I left... the next day (today) I got called into the shop early.

What shop is it? Have they ever done one of our cars before?

You might've gotten FA20Clubbed, but at least you didn't get Viscontified.

Olympic Motorsports (Margate), I was referred to them by AWD Motorsports when I bought my BRZ new & wanted to turbo it. they did my suspension mods & 1st flash tune. This is my 1st car w/ aftermarket parts - im pretty newb to the scene :-\ thats why I came for advice! It may boil down to going the legal route & I rly hate that.

I feel that there is no reason why you should be held liable UNLESS you signed something saying whatever happens, happens. The fact that someone would have the audacity to tell me I could buy an engine, then give it back to them to install after THEY fucked it up, is mind boggling.

no waiver, basically bought the parts and pay for the labor afterwards.. well the labor hasnt been paid for of course.. now my car is a rly large paper weight .

I'm rly not looking to give anyone a bad rep but prior to that they did my clutch & was to install the kit but the kit had fitment issues & got sent back so I was riding around with my clutch (exedy stage 2 - good grip but harder than OEM pedal feel) & started to have a smell... well I finally decided to pop the hood & oil was all over.. The oil filter wasnt on right, engine oil was sputtering & burning, had to replace the filter & top the oil off. It's ironic, I almost lost my engine then & now i have officially lost my engine. I didnt wanna make an issue as they were to install other parts on my car, I just wanted it over & done with to walk away.. but now this.

They buy you a new engine and you take the car elsewhere. Sounds like he fucked up the tune and blew your motor. And the idiot is trying to play it off on some made up warranty claim. If he does not buy you a new motor. Take legal action. Trust me, he will buy you a new motor when he figures out how much the legal costs will be. Don't let those dumbasses bully you. They think they have the upper hand with young car owners. Well the fact is that they don't when you know your rights and power you actually have.

I know it sounds bad, but I alrdy had $5k+ in parts at the shop I just wanted them put on and then i'd be done. I didn't want to make a stink and then have them intentionally do something, ya know? Maybe im just too nice a guy perhaps
