Until today I've only seen one R33 Automatic and that was the one.
I never knew that was an option either.... transmission swap maybe? IDK

The way I see it is the "offending" hood opening had nothing to do with crash safety standards. What it had to do with was producing a single hood that would fit on multiple nose configurations. I suspect if they had made a hood that ran to the "edge" of either the BRZ or 86 nose line, it would not have fit the other requiring two different hoods.

X2, the concept was clean and simple, but the production car had more body lines.

I did however like the taillights better on the FT-86.
