Toyota onboard

Hello All,
Non BRZ/FRS owner here. I'm getting ready to buy a 2015 BRZ Limited, but last week I saw an article that made me hold off. Did anyone else see the announcement on Oct 14th from Toyota regarding the future of the FRS? Or is this old news? It said there would be a 2nd generation. I know Subaru said there would be a 2nd gen back in July, but there was still some speculation about Toyota. When do you think the 2nd gen would arrive?

Cars like this generally have a longer livecycle than average vehicles. No one knows anything for sure, but personally I can't envision any major changes before the 6 year mark, or the 2019 model year. If sales tank before then, sure they will probably try something.

If you keep waiting because the next thing will be better, you'll always be waiting. There's no second gen coming in the next year or two.

I'd say it's a reasonable time to jump on board for a 2015. The car is in its third year and they came out with nice updates on the car along with a couple of special editions (RS 1.0 and S.B.).

If anything significant happens, you can always trade up... Yet I have a feeling it's going to be a while and you'll be playing the waiting game and missing out on the gem of a car this is already.

GL.

2015 is the "second gen". It's why they're known as "2.0" on the BRZ owner's card.

There won't be a power increase, only cost. A few pieces of trim, nice trim, but still trim. MY opinion.

A major model change denotes a second generation not a minor model change. The "2.0" is pure marketing.

No one's going to mention the possibility of forced induction? I swear there were more people who were so sure that that's what was going to happen for the 2015 model.

At least 2 or 3 years away. Might as well buy an firs and buy the time you're paid off you can trade in.

My thoughts exactly... The updates are nice, and by now most bugs should have been addressed. If something significant happens, I'll upgrade later.

ya..just get it and enjoy the car. If we waited for every up date, be it of a car/ computer/ tablet/ phone, or even your spouse or girlfriend, we would never have anything!

Not happening until 2017MY at least. Get one now, enjoy it, and if a new one comes out that you want, enjoy Subaru's fantastic resale value and trade yours in for the new one.

toyota and subaru spend a lot of money and effort in making this car so they are not gonna make any major change soon. In addition, toyota has plan in launching new supra (some rumor said would be 4 cylinder turbo) and in my opinion, that is an indication that ft86 wont get turbo because that would cross the class.
