BUt yeah I also think it would be dumb for another manu. to try and compete with it... It's just too smal of a market.
LOL. I'd own it.

And about their handling, my understanding was the difference is so small it isn't a topic of conversation, the Cayman being a tad more rigid of course.

If tuners can safely and easily add power, they might have a hit. Otherwise Porsche and Corvette are going to thrash it just like they do with everything else.

Who said anything about cheaper? VW group didn't design a car to break the top speed world record, then a faster version to retake it, and then an even faster successor to make money. It lost money but they did it to show off and generate brand excitement; something Honda or any other company could just as easily decide to do.
Fine, Honda can make a car better than a cayman for more expensive than a cayman.

Trick question, none of us peasants know, but if I was to guess, it's not because the Cayman is unbeatable, it's because it would generate next to no profit.
There are plenty of companies who have tried to compete with the Cayman (4C, Audi TT RS, Alpine A110, Supra)

Just because the Supra isn't mid-engine I don't see why you can't compare the two. The supra is going to be a small 2-seater, lightweight, focus on driver engagement, and cost around the same price.

I'm referring to how they achieve their performance, as opposed to their performance being close within different design approaches. I am well aware cars compete with the Cayman, I would argue the Corvette Stingray is superior, but, they do not have the same design, which for some (me), that is an important aspect and would dictate which vehicle I would choose to buy.

Let's reverse a little here. Given the design approaches of many cars, there are cars that definitely compete with the Cayman, but using that so loosely as it seems it may start to become that, a Type R could be considered a competitor to the Cayman, especially considering it's performance/dollar.

So if we are to go off of what I was actually saying, the Corvette and Supra can not be compared to the Cayman, with respects to what I think is comparable; the design is completely different and how these cars achieve performance is also different.

There is no mid engine RWD (RMR) sportscar that competes with the Cayman that you can buy new and at it's price point right now, they simply don't exist.

How did we go from talking about the S2000 to this?

The MkIV Supra TT competed with the Corvette & 911. That is the only time this occurred. Previously it did not, and there's no chance in hell of the new Supra competing with the Corvette, 911 or Cayman - at least not from a performance perspective.

Lotus Evora 400 (and 410 for the hardcore)
Quote:
How does it compare?

This is where it gets tricky for the Evora 400 because there’s no escaping the fact that the Cayman GT4 offers so much goodness for a lot less money. The Porsche isn’t quite so fast but it does have a better drivetrain and in terms of quality it’s obviously on another level. However, there are plenty of people who don’t want (or can’t get) a Cayman and the superbly communicative, agile and now more exciting Evora 400 has its own appeal. The fact that you can now actually get into the thing without folding yourself up like origami makes it vastly more appealing.
Also in this class exists the Lotus Elise, and Alfa 4C as options (the Alfa will get a significant refresh for 2018.) So I'd say there are 4 cars in this class if you're talking purely mid-ship engine layout. However, I'd say the front-mid-ship Supra will compete with potential Cayman buyers on performance, amenities, and price as well. Even if it isn't a classicly mid-engined car.

Nice double post lol.

So the Evora is a bit pricey, no? The Alfa is competition and the Elise is competition within exact engine layouts (thank god you understand). For Canadians, that's like next to no options, because Lotus isn't really widely available and seems rather tasking to get your hands on one.

I have been in agreement with your last point that other cars can definitely compete in performance, and in some cases exceed the Cayman at it's price. I just want a Baby NSX to happen, classic mid engine is cool as fuq. Once the Stingray gets a mid engine, it will be an option.

I worked with a dude in Windsor that had 5 of the things. FIVE! Don't remember the years and models but he had them. They were in great shape since he only ever drove one of them.

I would like to know the actual price on them because it would be inaccurate to convert based on their website -_-. Interested to know how much of reality they are over the likes or a Cayman later down the road.
