Tuners in Vic

Hi all.

So in about a years time I'll probably be going down the forced induction route.
Are any other Aus/Vic members boosted that have had a custom tune and dyno?

I literally know no one for this service in Victoria but know plenty in Sydney.

Cheers.

My cars coming out of warranty period very soon so I need a reputable, reliable and relatively close mechanic. When you say a lot of work, what precisely do you mean? Suspension, exhaust, brakes, etc. Also interested in the make/Type of SC you're considering? Looking at the Harrop S/C myself..

They installed my subframe/diff mounts, they do my general servicing (car is on a lease)
They did my water water pump, replaced my brakes and fluid, installed my sideskirts etc.. they do it all.
Suspension work they can do, but i have that all done by TrueTrack up the road (who Chasers use for their race cars)

I am also looking at the Harrop, Nath who works at Chasers has installed quite a few of them on various cars, he did two on two different C63's last week, one i have been in and was nuts! (Think it now has 500rwkw..)

Excellent.

Sounds like they meet all my requirements. I actually enquired with Harrop re drive in drive out pricing so I'll have to compare.

I'll go and check them out and speak to Nath if I can.

Yeah, Tell Nath that Fudd sent you.

I estimate about 10k for the Harrop

7k for the kit
2k for install (about 10-12 hours)
1k for tuning.

First one is always going to take the longest, it may take well less than the 10 hours i have been told (that was based on the other Harrop S/C's they have installed)

I emailed Harrop for drive in, drive out pricing. Here's the reply...

Re Drive in/Drive out price.
"Pricing is currently $8816 inc GST drive in drive out at our Harrop Performance centre in Preston"

Re install time;
"We allow the car to be in our Work shop in preston for roughly 2 days , this is drive in drive out."

I figure $10k by the time 'unforeseen extras' are added. You'd expect drive in, drive out to include tune. No engineering cert though...yet.

Thanks will do :

Dude... That is good! I might do that haha.
Then the money I save can go to a new clutch!

Q; What OEM components, e.g. Clutch, Radiator, etc, would need upgrading or should be upgraded to facilitate the install.

A. "Nothing specifically needs to be added or upgraded straight away when you have done a supercharger install if your intended use is going to be as a daily driver/weekend car. Later one if the standard clutch did wear out from normal use you would look at upgrading it to a heavy duty clutch."

Seems providing it's driven respectfully and in a way 95% of us will drive them the clutch should last it's normal life.

I should have clarified if a tune was included in Drive In/Drive Out pricing. May actually suit some buyers, as yourself, to buy kit and have it installed and tuned by those you trust. If Chase were an authorised agent they may have some room to move re price/install/tune packages, especially if 3 or 4 were interested in purchasing.

The Harrop has to be the most logical choice if SC is our thing.. They have an incredible reputation world wide for their motor sport engineering and being based in Melbourne, and local to me, is a huge positive.

If it is drive in, drive out, they would have to do the tune, otherwise it would be drive in, push car onto truck to get to tuner..
I am waiting on the install manual to come, when i get that ill ask about what they use to tune it, I am assuming it would be ECUTEK.
If that is right, I might go with them, sell my Open flash tablet.

The clutch i just want to do, just to make sure it's perfect, stock one would be ok for a while.
I wouldn't mind doing an oil cooler too.

Currently making my own "budget" catch can to install too..

The OFT would generate enough to go a long way to pay for a new clutch.
Add the clutch and oil cooler and there's your $10k budget.

If the install price includes an ECUTEK licence and tune that's a pretty decent price, given the dollar and market size.

There's a very good Youtube install of the Edelbrock SC on an FRS in time lapse. It's virtually identical to the Harrop apart, I think, from the intercooler hose locations. One's from the front and the others from behind.

I don't know who has the original patent.

So you've contacted Harrop for an install manual?

Being in Preston, for once someone's actually close to where I live. Hallelujah!! , it would be worth calling in and seeing the units and operation in person.

I know Resa and Tyler Street very well. I'm born and bred in Preston and lived about a km from where Harrop now are. I'm now in Oak Park. That's why getting to Chasers is relatively (nothing is truly easy on the Tulla now), easy to get to.

Is it me or does it seem that if we need to buy something or get something done to this car the only place we can buy it or get it done is on the other side of this traffic congested, road lacking shit hole called Melbourne!!

Even reputable tuners seem few and far between on this side of town, and Melbourne in general compared to Sydney and QLD.

Perhaps it's just my perception..
