Toyota has never stated anything about production numbers. there was a germany article like 2 years ago that said between BMW and Toyota that 60,000 Z4s and Supras could be made each. sometime had pasted and that same source then went on to say that 10,000 or less Supras will be made annually. again, there has been no official press release with production numbers..

Gladly Nissan said no to the 3 pointed swastika (Mercedes) for the next Z car.
Now that is something I am looking forward to in 2021/22.

I'm not holding my breath for the new Z car. If Nissan ever decides to make one it will probably be a hybrid.

Maybe their sharing agreement with Renault will result in a Z car based on the Alpine. That could be really good or really really bad though.

The new Supra is still a Japanese car. While it may have a BMW powerplant and be produced in a third-party factory in Austria, the tuning and development of the chassis is very Japanese. This is why I like Japanese cars, it's how they feel, it's the focus on finding balance over raw power. German and Japanese engineering focuses are actually not far off one another, except that the Japanese understand the value of being lightweight, and the Germans seem to never care how heavy it is. I abhor American cars, because they are almost universally unbalanced, relying on raw power over any semblance of balance. There's a reason every car I've enjoyed driving has been Japanese, and even basic peasant commuter cars are more balanced. A lot of people never even give thought to these sorts of things when buying a car, but it's a major factory in Japanese automakers success I believe, as a balanced car feels more controlled and enjoyable, even to those who don't much care for driving. |

You can probably make this statement and it'd likely be accurate: The BMW Z4 hardtop: Tuned by Toyota. |

People trying to pass off the Supra as a simple rebadged Z4 are just ignorant of the facts and what badge engineering actually is. This joint venture was a way for two companies in a long term strategic partnership could produce low volume low margin cars that no corporate accountants would ever willingly rubber stamp in today's world. Instead of being cynical whiners, people need to appreciate what we can get in the world of electric golf carts, SUVs and crossovers. Btw, if any of you haters have a hard on for getting a 'real' sports car, chevy has over 9,000 corvettes sitting in their inventory at 12k-18k discounts. Go grab one and tell your bros how you didn't buy a rebadged BMW like the other Toyota suckers. Something else to think about. New Supra concept first appears in 2014. New Z4 concept appears in 2017. Except for the fact that being 4000lbs still makes you a fat pig of a car... |
