IDC. They first came out only with 6-cyl in 1964. It's the original definition of Mustang and Pony Car. None of the trims would have survived/existed without it so you admiring those other trims is an admission to that whether you like it or not.

Also outperforms the previous gen V8. Doesn't matter it's "V6". You know what sounds worse than V6 (both by name and noise)? I4 turbo.

Get a Mini!

They're cheap-ish, extremely unreliable, horribly unsafe, and you'll spend every dollar you earn buying parts from Jolly old England. But you'll love every second you're in it and you'll think your 86 is a fat pig after driving the Mini for a day.

And, to clarify, I mean an actual classic Mini, not the Bimmer in English clothing that passes for a Mini these days.

Here's a picture of @fourvalleys Mini from the last time we were wrenching on it:

Couple other guys on here have Minis too. And yes, before you ask, mine's still not done. I'm working on it now and shooting video as well... :P

Love the direction Toyota went with the new Rollas. Occasionally wonder if I'd have gotten that instead of the Mustang if I waited. With Toyota bringing sporty back, the ultimate shocker would be a turbo/AWD like their WRC days.

EcoBoost cars actually don't sound bad, even stock.

It doesn't take much to outperform a 3v car, lol.

The FWD BMW isn't a terrible suggestion though.
Apparently a few even came with LSD's, so it'd be like a Civic Si, with a real hatch and character.

I was thinking Dodge Dart when I opened this until I remembered how awful mine was on hills with snow but since you said you get no snow a Dart may be good. Lots of trunk space compared to BRZ/Fr-S/86s. I used to carry lumber in mine and there are some trim options that look good to. Mine was a Rally and I miss it...because of what actually fit in the trunk when I went to get groceries or cheap random pieces of knock-down furniture from Walmart. Now I have to pass by most things because I don't have the space.

*also I got into a nice accident taking a left turn into my driveway and was rear ended by a texter and the way the car is made is in sections so the back end was all that was jacked up. Frame was fine and all parts were easily obtained for repairs and all I got was a nose bleed because I was resting my hand against my face
