Hypothesis: there is an increase in power due to better air flow. That is, less restrictive. Does that mean the after market filters don't filter as well as the OEM part? Maybe the after market filters won't catch as fine particles as the OEM part.
Just wondering.

In your guys' opinion, what's the best drop in air filter out on the market right now for the frs and best sounding one as well?

5hp seems a lot compared to the other results we've seen. Did you run another baseline at the end?

pretty neat. I'm guessing the K&N is the cheapest out of the bunch?

Smile K&N Filter Review

Hello! Thanks for your awesome post up for intake filters; I have a question that comes with a short story:

Before part numbers were officially announced in the weeks before the car went public, I bought 33-2252 from autozone after the cool employees let me test fit all filters that looked remotely close; the fit is Perfect. Now of course, K&N lists it officially as 33-2300, but they provide no flow data like they usually do; the reason both fits is dimensions are practically identical (length & width the same) except the 33-2300 has a taller filter element by I think less than 2mm. Do you think there would be a difference in gain here?

What gets me the most is that the 33-2300 is listed for the 05 TC & seems like a real limited/old aplication, while the 33-2252 is found in a lot more recent Toyotas & performance motor applications like the Lotus Elise; it strikes me odd that Toyota would use an intake box/ filter design from an older car rather than a newer one; with no flow data from K&N I wouldn't be able to rest until I see a comparison between the two haha
Your dyno time is precious, you have new parts coming in to worry about, & crops to harvest! Though if possible could you please include the 33-2252 in your next batch of filter tests that will include the apexi & afe oiled; that would be another much appreciated interesting comparison!

We did not do an ending base line. We will be back on the Dyno again to finish off the testing of the other filters and will do another base line then for this thread. And we can do a start and stop baseline then. But really those base lines would only be applicable to the new filters tested as temp and etc will probably be different.

HKS is actually. Hit up our website.

Are others running the 33-2252? If so we could maybe add it to our next batch, otherwise it's an increase in cost in something we may not sell. I'm "guessing" that gains or lack of gains is going to be about the same with the change in filter element size really. Then again, Autozone would probably take it back...

Like I said we have nothing to gain here, just simple, and I mean very simple pulls with results posted for the public to see. :happy0180:

I'd love to, but 89 million other places sell them as well. It's not like these are our air filters and only available through us.

You don't have to buy the filters from them, but seeing as how they have made an effort to communicate data at no cost to us I would consider purchasing from them if price is right.

Currently we are only missing the APEXi, and the aFe Oiled Element. We should have those done in a week or so. Those two filters were a bit behind on the UPS truck.

As more come out we'll keep this thread updated with their data.
