Installing body kit with ONLY 3M tape?

Is it reasonable? I don't want to drill into my car. I'm contemplating the HT Autos kit, paired with a SARD wing (no drilling!). I figure with a full length of 1" VHB on each part (lip, skirts, spats) it would be on there solid. I saw another thread about how the STI kit doesn't require drilling into the metal, but I'm not a fan of it. Another thread had a video posted showing the performance of rivets vs VHB, and this has led me to believe it might work well. Thoughts?

Depends on what kit really but I am pretty sure most kits need cutting and rivets/screws to install them. Wide body kits are meant to be installed to be able to run wider tires. Using 3m to attach a widebody will just look weird because you won't be able to run flush without wide tires.

OP is referring to the underbody lips and skirts, not actual widebody kits that would 100% require drilling and riveting/molding into the body.

As for the underbody pieces, using screws is pretty much the standard. IIRC, the HT auto kit pretty much screws into the bottom of everything and doesn't reuse any of the wheel well push clips like the STI kits do. If you try to use only 3M tape, the skirts will likely droop and come off due to the weight of the pieces.

Thanks for the replies! I may just start with the SARD wing and see how it goes.

If you are talking about a kit like the STI kit, iirc, the only thing that requires drilling is the lip. I wouldn't try to tape the lip on.

Anything that has impact risk should not be 3M taped, in my opinion.

You should never drill in the metal underbody for some cheap skirts, in my opinion

I used screws every 10-12 inches on my side skirts. I tried tape, it left a gap, and was not secure.

Think about it.... The tape is going to fail; just when? Possibly when a cop is behind you...

I would strongly suggest using screws, bolts or some secure way of attaching your front lip or side skirts.
