Mine has such a patina it could be termed as a crust.

And that's OK.

We had old tractors, back on the farm, that would seep oil, then the oil would soak up the dust, then more oil and more dust.

They ran forever.

Well, ya ...... when a prospective buyer is looking for a good pre-owned car and they see a spanking clean engine bay, they figure at least one of the below happened:

* a DIY dude forgot to put the oil filler cap back on, engine oil spewed out onto the engine bay, he ran it low on oil for several miles ...... then cleaned up the mess to cover up his goof up.

* the car had been modded with FI, tracked to death, then put back together with the shiny OEM parts.

* the car was a "flood" car and the engine bay was cleaned to get rid of the mud.

* the engine had caught fire, due to a bad tune, and things were replaced by cleaned up stuff from the wrecking yard.

Thats what mine is doing with the timeing cover leaking slightly and then driving through farmland every day. Gives it character.

I found coolant in places I didn't know coolant could reach, like the taillights. I wish I was kidding. That car did a great job of keeping my wallet light while holding its parking spot down.
Oh, ya ...... once coolant escapes ...... it can go anywhere .....

What did you use and how did you clean up the engine bay? Mine is due for one. Your car isn't totally stock...you seem to have different tires too

Did the Scion First Drive when the car came out and knew then it would be my next car. I love seeing all the different approaches people take when making the car their own. I've chosen to leave this one alone since some of my deepest money pits in the past have involved four wheels. Anyways, here's some pics.

That's the first time I've seen an FR-S with door guards - definitely unique IMO. Welcome to the forum btw!

I kinda like them... And with the many suvs infesting our roadways and parking lots (not to mention runaway shopping carts), it seems like a fully functional mod.

Yeah my other car got smashed by a runaway shopping cart a few weeks ago - did way more damage than I was expecting
