I'm not sure what you mean by same as 2012. 2012 is when 86 was released.

It's the same aero kit that has been a factory option here since the cars release in 2012 and is still available - here it is on the range we can buy http://toyota.co.nz/our-range/86/gt8...with-aero-kit/

The side skirts and wing are good quality but the insert pieces in the front bumper are cheap plastic that doesn't fit well and seem to get worse over time from the cars I have seen.

Ehh you can buy all that stuff cheaper with better quality and just snap it on. This is the same thing they did to the Celicas before they stopped selling. I think they called the Toyota Air or something like that. Only place they went wrong with the Celica, FWD. Had it been RWD, it'd still be selling today

And for 40K you're getting out of the price range of this cars worth and into a 12 second car

Yes it is when the car was released and yes that kit is from then (in Japan). Unless the guys in the thread below had a time machine.

The thing is Toyota see's this market and those that don't have the ability or time to buy and install a kit etc. can just order this and done. Good idea on Toyota's part

Now, all I gotta say is, I want those 18" wheels... but they're not cheap & their offset isn't aggressive enough... Orz
Thanks, that is sort of what I though but could not confirm.
Those 100 limited edition owners must be pissed at this!

Having more options is never a bad thing. Perhaps this kit will be offered in the US once the Scion brand is retired and the car gets re-branded as a Toyota 86 like in other markets?

The bonuses are OEM fit and finish and kit does actually look pretty good in the flesh. I've seen it a few times on a 86 GTS here in the land down under. Bit too boy racer for my own tastes, but it certainly draws attention. Looks good on white and red cars imo.

Well they are Japanese so you would have more insight to the cultural thought process then I.

Imagine the crap that would go down here in North America if people owned one of 100 Limited Edition cars and all of a sudden the same thing became available as a normal trim level. There would be 94 guys rioting in the streets (6 would already be totaled).

Haha, I can see that. You won't see that happening over there. They'll just stuck it up or just sell it and get different car. Either way, Japanese ppl don't keep their cars for long (due to taxes and reg).

That's $40k in NZ dollars. NZ$40k = US$27k

I don't like it either but it is only NZ$1,600 as a factory fitted option here or US$1,067. Not bad pricing for factory fitted (and warranty) as the wing and side skirts are pretty good quality, it's just the front bumper inserts that are crap.

It's the difference in price between these two options and comes from the Japanese factory colour coded and fitted.
http://toyota.co.nz/our-range/86/gt86/

US$3,600 if you buy spoiler, side skirts, front lip and rear bumper spoiler as separate options here http://www.nigel-jdmparts.com/toyota-86-scion-frs-1
