Scholarship for daughter - need votes

Hi all,
My daughter was accepted into the Mechanical Engineering program at NAU. She is applying for a $5,000 scholarship. Her essay (on drinking and driving) was selected as a finalist.

It all comes down to the number of votes she can get now. If you have a minute, please vote for her essay here:

http://www.ashleysdream.org/contest-entry/?ent=4909

Any shares or reposts to other friends and family would be very much appreciated. She needs this scholarship bad!

Thanks!!!

Damn, went to vote but I don't have FB. Best wishes for you guys though, paying for college is a bitch, and I've got mad respect for those who take up that responsibility regardless.

Thank you!!! Just over the weekend, she moved into third place (out of 300+ finalists). So, I know people are voting. I really do appreciate all the support.

We're all trying to reach out to our family, friends and community. This car forum is the only way I know

Thanks!

I'm guessing a vote is a "like"? If so, voted...

It is a sad commentary on the current state of the world when hard word and suitability mean less than the number of clicks on a web site when determining who is the best candidate for something.
Those with the most contacts win whether they really deserve it or not.

Just thinking the same thing, it's pretty pathetic. Not blaming the OP by attempting to cheat by posting on online automotive forums, more blame goes to the institution for being lazy enough not to find and approve candidates themselves. I would also be skeptical about any engineering program that bases their scholarships on Facebook likes.

Don't think OP was "cheating" at all. Pretty good use of available resources really.
I just have a problem with people using Facebook as a method to judge things which should be based on a form of technical merit not just as the result of a popularity contest.

Thank you all. @Tcoat - I COMPLETELY agree. In fact, I was telling my wife the same thing over the weekend. I think it's horrible that the fate of this scholarship lies in how many "likes"/votes she gets.

With that said, I appreciate any help/votes/likes you can throw her way. Social media is a good way to get a message out. I'm sure the foundation providing this scholarship is trying to get as many people looking at their agenda as possible. As much as I hate the voting system, I think it's good anytime we can spread the word about drinking and driving (it's my mother that she is talking about, who's life was ruined by a drunk driver).

@Turbo95eg6 - the engineering program has nothing to do with this. Their engineering program is ranked #13(?) in the nation. It's a good school. This is merely a scholarship opportunity for my daughter. When a bachelors degree costs $160,000 ($40k/yr), you start applying for every possible scholarship to get assistance. This one is worth $5,000 and is near to our hearts.

Thanks again everyone. It's very much appreciated.

^This 100x... But when the game is rigged, never feel bad about using the ace up your sleeve. I don't have kids but I'd imagine that no matter how much the system pissed me off, I'd tap every resource to give them the best.

What a horrid way to run a scholarship... And at some point, damned if that isn't how so much of the world works.
Not something I would usually do but I voted. That was one of my choices, (did really well on scholarship even) and went to art school instead. Yeah...
