Alarm System on the Limited

Have any of you played around with the alarm system yet? I was reading up on it (owner's manual pg 81).
Setting the alarm system
  • Lock the doors using the "keyless access" entry function --- Button on key
  • Lock the doors using the remote keyless entry system. --- Sensor on door
  • Lock the doors from the outside without using a key (pg 44) --- Manual lock nub
The system will be set automatically after 30 seconds or more elapse.
The indicator light changes from being on to flashing when the system is set.

And then this is on page 82.
Activating/deactivating the alarm system steps
  1. Check that both side doors and the trunk lid are closed
  2. Turn the push-button ignition switch to "ON" mode.
  3. Open the driver's doorwhile pressing and holding (unlock icon) on the power door lock switch and continue to press (unlock icon) for approximately 10 seconds after the driver's door has opened.

I followed the instructions on page 81 and thought it was all set up. But then I read the steps on page 82, and did that. Whatever I did seemed to work. The alarm went off when I tried to unlock the doors manually from inside.
Anyone else try this out yet? How'd it go?

It will go off whenever the door is unlocked using anything but the key fob. This I how it's been in every car I've owned. FWIW the dealer can set it so that the key being used in the door doesn't set the alarm off, but it will still go off if you set the alarm while in the car and open it using the door handle.

No. Actually not sure if the alarm is set it might... never tried it before. Basically if the car doesn't beep and flash it's lights then you haven't disarmed it and it will go off.

Edit... Actually it does. I've locked my keys in my car before and gotten it out by pushing the unlock button with a stick. This set off the alarm. I've also been too lazy to take out my keys and pushed the unlock button through an open window and this also set off the alarm. Haven't tried this on the BRZ though.

It will go off from the inside if unlocked via the knob. The manual warns about leaving someone in the car with the doors locked because it will go off if they try to get out. I was able to unlock using the door switch without setting it off.

is there a way to kill the ignition if someone drives away without the key? (carjacking scenario)

No. Built in safety feature so if the key runs out of battery the car stays on.

So I have the alarm activated on my brz (alarm light goes on) but I tried to set it off by someone locking the car while I was in it and I unlocked the car and opened the door but nothing happened. Any ideas?

make sure you have it really turned on. (page 82 of the manuel) .The alarm comes set to off from the dealer.

Also, make sure the key fob is nowhere near the car when you open the door.
