Dutch General Director of Toyota comments on price

In this movie, its dutch but:
http://www.autoweek.nl/video/2711/au...-86-40000-euro

The General Director of Toyota & Lexus Import in The Netherlands comments on the price of the GT86 and he says it will be around 40.000 euro's. (depending on emissions)

Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo is 42.000 euro's here so do the math.

  • Peugeot RCZ - 1.6 turbo 200hp - starting 35.300
  • Hyundai Genesis Coupe - 2.0 turbo 230hp - starting 42.000
  • Renault Clio RS - 2.0 200hp - starting 30.000
  • Renault Megane RS - 2.0 turbo 250hp - starting 33.000

(we have mad car taxes here, but you can compare now.)

40K euro?

That's pretty crazy.. that would be something like $53 or $54k in the states. Quite a lot for not so much.

40 000 euros in Europe ? they are crazy !!!

My Celica 2ZZ was 29.000€ brand new in 2002, can't be true with the work made with Subaru to reduce cost developpement or I'll really hate Toyota for doing money on this car coz they said they'll not.

Clio RS is starting at 23 700€ in france, seems that is a little problem concerning the price hmmmmm

Yea dont focus too much on converting the euros to dollars because it does not work that way. We have a base price here, then we add VAT 19%, then we add something called BPM, which is a special tax only The Netherlands have based on emissions and stuff. (about 40% added on top of base price)

Makes cars mad expensive here, so your 22k ? USD genesis coupe costs 42k euros.

This way you can compare.

Well, i think this is good news...
because the genesis coupe 2.0T starting at 27000€ (in Germany), so if the GT 86 will be 2000€ less expensive than the Hyundai or for instance the Golf GTI, i will be more than happy

cheers

Yep, european emission taxes sucks. Car prices are high here, especially powerful cars. Gt86 has one price advantage, it has low emission engine and better mileage than most of it's competitors. They are turboed and quite heavy, so their city mileage isn't great. And thats increase price. In finland, almost every hot hatch cost 40.000 euro. That's the price range i'm afraid.

I would just note that, in Romania (U.E.), the Genesis Coupe 2.0T is ~26700 euro, VAT included. There is still hope...

Impossible. However good the car is it can only be priced between the Clio RS and the Megane RS, so about 25.000 €. Otherwise this car is not affordable, and if it is not affordable, for this price I want CF chassis and 270 PS NA H4 with redline at 9.000 RPM.

Thanks for clarifying, I was aware that the UK had some pretty high taxes for cars but didn't know the Netherlands did too. Sorry to hear you guys get screwed like that.

This is the first useful pricing information that has come out of a credible source. Thank you very much. Navi, as you point out, direct conversion using the currency exchange rate means nothing. Only the comparison with a benchmark (in this case, Hyundai Genesis Coupe) is relevant.

I would LOVE it if you're right. Though sadly, I'm not counting on it.
