Star Wars: Rogue One Review **Spoilers Inside**

Just saw Star Wars Rogue One. I would say I am a fan of Star Wars movies, but I am not so far on the fan boy side that I sleep with my light saber, but oh yea, I own a light saber, so with that being laid on the table, here is the review...***SPOILERS BELOW AND MOSTLY GRIPES***

I will just get to the point. If you are a Star Wars fan, go see it. Is it worth the cost to see the movie in the theaters on a big screen with people chewing food all around you, a kid crying in the background and a melted gummy bear stuck to your butt? Of course. Is it memorable; does it make you want to see it again? Probably not. Was it even close to Force Awakens? No.

Ok, into the gripes.

The opening sequence has the "...in a galaxy far, far..." but no loud music and no bold, blaring Star Wars title, and there was no fading prologue. In fact, the title came after the open scene.

The first scene was done in a beautiful setting, and was enjoyable. Then the title followed and left a sour taste in my mouth. Then I heard the modified theme music, and it sounded like the original soundtrack, but butchered. This continued throughout the movie.

Then they start taking you from one planet to the next. It wasn't confusing as much as it just felt rushed, and it lacked some back story, or enough development.

Many moments in the beginning were too dark. I think they could have improved the lighting in many of the ship scenes. They have enough power to go to light speed, but not enough to light the ship apparently.

Much of the dialogue seems antiquated like it is there to fill time more than add to the script.

Too many actors have weird voices in this. Yes, James Earl Jones is old, so his voice doesn't sound the same. Forest Whitaker's voice is annoying. Diego Luna's french voice was annoying. Even Donnie Yen sounded like he modified his voice for his roll.

The android was funny, but too real in its mannerisms. Felt more like they CGI'd a machine over the top of a man.

The CGI of Princes Laya and the general was pretty good, but still annoying.

Lots of the battle scenes were overly cliche...enter crying girl in battle scene that needs the main character to do a diving save before bullets, blasters or buildings fall on her.

The best part was the part where Darth Vader kicks everyone's ass for 30 seconds.

This was probably the worst review ever lol I don't care. Just had to gripe. Overall, this movie could have been better. They could have broken from tradition without butchering the theme music, the title sequence, inflicted annoying voices, gave some more back stories (like more about the importance of the Jedi city), improved the lighting and gave us some memorable characters.

I watched Force Awakens once in the theatre and probably half dozen times at home. I'll see Rogue One again, probably, someday.

I agree, the movie had a few gripes, however I thought they did a fairly good job with this one.

I would say I enjoyed it more than The Force Awakens. I would also say that there was a lot of meaning behind the movie, sacrifice. This movie ended on a not so happy note in my opinion, and I think it was a great change from the original star wars movies.

I enjoyed this one way more than The Force Awakens, Vader kicking ass was definitely the best part

Im your much more average Star Wars fan (dont own a lightsaber) but I thought it was great. I usually hate movies with endings like that but I thought it was a good change. I liked the Rebels getting their hands dirty, being confused about right and wrong. It is much more realistic for any longtime battle I feel. And while there was a lot of bouncing around I didn't mind it. I did like how close to Episode IV it brought the storyline though which was cool.

The Vader end scene was bad ass.

I fully understand your gripes, and don't completely disagree, but the opening fanfare was deliberately different because it's not a "main episode" entry. It's a side story and was treated as such and I could appreciate Lucasfilms for making small changes but keeping that star wars feel about it.
I agree with all the bouncing around in the beginning, trying to figure out where we are and what's going on now, oh we're changing location again, okay.
Whittaker's voice WAS annoying.
I was impressed with the CG for the general and Leia, not at all mad about that.
I liked all the little 'silent nods' to the original trilogy. Like the duo that Obi Wan roughs up in the cantina making a cameo running into Jyn on the street.
I saw it in theaters twice, opening day the audience was way more into it, laughing and cheering and applauding.
2nd time 3 days later most people were snacking entirely too loudly for me to even enjoy it again.
All in all, I'm easily entertained so I loved it. Did feel rushed at a lot of points but great scenery and battles. And duh, Vader going ham. Wish there was more of that.

I personally thought the force awakens was a horrible movie and other than starting a little slow and jumping around too much at the beginning, this one was pretty good.

Vader and Tarkin were awesome and I loved the savagery of the Empire in general, even amongst themselves.

Another side complaint is that it would have been hilarious if they put Porkins in the movie.

Finally saw the movie... went in not expecting much but even still was pretty disappointed. Plot holes galore, incoherent story, awkward boring dialog, wooden acting.

You know the writers did a shitty job when the only character you are actually sorry to see die is the robot.

Er, it was a Mexican accent, not a French one. Luna is a Mexican actor.

I'll 2nd that notion. 2 hours of Vader hunting down remaining Jedi? Think of the possibilities!

Right, my mistake. He looks more spanish than mexican to me and oddly enough, he played Casinova in 2015--a French man.
