Everything is just about complete. I just need to make 4 spacers to go in between the inner and outer plates on the transmission mount. I also need to make the rack and pinion mounts for my crossmember as well as sway bar mounts. Hopefully by the end of next week its getting powder coated, so I can start plumbing and wiring.

I had a little set back. I totaled my daily driver. I did manage to start getting the rack mount tacked into place today. The old steering ujoint is in a picture but will be getting removed, and the shaft will be lengthened to meet the new u joint.

Starting to make the parts for my steering shaft to connect my custom rack to my column. Modifying the original collapsible section. I cut off the oem lower steering u-joint that connected to the rack to place a machined adapter I made that slides in the oem shaft, and reduces the inner diameter to go to 3/4" steering shaft that will attach to the new lower steering u-joint that connects to the rack. The new rack I installed forward of the oem rack location which necessitates lengthening the steering shaft. The new steering rack has a different size shaft, and spline count which required switching to a new lower steering u-joint as well. Otherwise I could have just lengthened the shaft.

I abandoned the idea of keeping the collapsible section of the steering shaft. It would have required more clearancing of the hole from the passenger compartment to the engine compartment due to the much larger outer diameter. I just used the adapter I made to attach a 3/4" shaft to a ujoint at the bottom of the electric power assist steering motor, and attached the other end of the 3/4" shaft to the u-joint on the steering rack. I did clearance the hole slightly and it will need a little more as it is in place but rubs a bit. The u- joints are pressed on for now after the hole is clearanced I will do a final test fit, and weld everything up. I may build a more compact collapsible section when I pull the car apart for paint before final assembly.

I haven't got much more done other than welding in blanks over the old openings to smoth the firewall. I also purchased a bulkhead to run the lines from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment. The bulkhead is placed under the cowel cover by the windshield wiper assembly. I plan on running the lines under the fender to keep them out of the way and hidden. The bulkhead is a unit that they would use on a old hot rod to run the heater, and ac lines. The bulkhead is a vintage air part or jegs part I can't remember. They sell the hose ends that screw onto the bulkhead to make your own lines, or you could have lines made with the correct ends on them.

I finished test fitting the pedal assembly, steering shaft, and steering rack. Welded the steering u joint's and shaft together today. I submerged the ujoint in water to keep it cool while welding. I need to complete the welding on the steering rack mounts. After the rack mounts are completed I will begin putting all engine together to get it ready to run all the plumbing, and electrical.

I installed the steering shaft it fits well. I was going to start assembling the accessory drive assembly, and supercharger. While under the car I noticed the oil pan sealant is a bit excessive. So change of plans. I'm going to pull the sub frame final weld the rack and pinion mounts. While the subframe is out I'm going to pull the oil pan and timing cover to seal it up a bit cleaner. I don't want random RTV sealant pieces floating around in my engine down the road.

No working 6 days a week 10hrs a day with a 3hr commute. Not much time to do anything besides work.
