I have to agree with you bro. Especially the 1st gen of the 86 will be sought for.

A new picture that says it all. The future of this car is looking right at us. I believe it will be the same as the AE86 in the future and be extremely popular among drifters and young enthusiasts.

I know among kids, this car is very popular due to drifting and video games. So it will always be sought out after. Especially the first generation.

people will still be checking out our cars out in the years to come...

non car enthusiasts..regular folk on the streets will think it's an exotic of some sort or a porsche especially if you have a red one or the lava

i had an elderly couple eyeballing my car in a burger king parking lot... based on their expressions they must have been saying "what in the world! i've never seen a toyota look like that in my entire life!"

Non car people currently think its some 50k+ car. I work in an area where its common to see high end luxury cars (and sometimes ferraris, etc) roaming around. When I have my windows rolled down, passersby and people in cars coming opposite direction ask me what do I do and how much the car cost.

Hell, a few people at work told me I get paid too much at my rank. Told them no no no.. if I got paid more, this is what I would have already.

Can't really compare it to the AE86 (GT-S especially) in the U.S. market. The GT-S' sold in relatively fewer numbers compared to the SR-5, had only a 3 year run, and an extremely small enthusiast crowd before Initial D / Drifting blew up in the early 2000's. By then many were already crushed, beaten to death, or abandoned in fields by the 5th owner, etc.

The hard to find and own factor is part of the AE86s allure. I don't see the twins being that hard to come by even in 20 years. Id compare it more to the 240sx in that regard, which includes finding stock examples being a bitch.

I'm going to point out that with the sheer amount of sensors and electronics keeping these things going, things are going to be very ugly maintenance wise in about a decade. Nobody's going to be happy keeping a CanBus linked system with multiple computers working in the average back yard. Big difference compared to an AE86, MR2 or Celica.

On the flip side, I'm guessing our cars are considerably lighter on electronics than most other modern cars...

Might offset that somewhat. It'll be like fuel injection vs. carburetors...

Yes Techstream showing only 15 modules. If you want to compare, an old VW Phaeton has like 56 modules with 3 separate CAN-BUS networks from what I've read.

Just make sure you build a faraday cage garage for your twin.

I fear that 10 years from now, we will all be driven in autonomous cars, the cost & liability of driving your own car will be too high for the average person, and manual-driven cars will be limited to private roads / tracks. These are the salad days, my friends. It only gets worse from here. My advice: get in yer 86, peel out like you stole it, roll the windows down and enjoy the freedoms.
THISx1000.

It might be a little bit more than 10 years, but the day is coming.

When autonomous automobiles begin to saturate the market and prove to be far safer (which they will), insurance premiums on manually-piloted automobiles will rise to the point to which they exist solely as playthings for the wealthy.

.

It will be awhile before cars or transportation in general be fully autonomous. I'm not worried of autonomous vehicles taking over in my lifetime anyway.

Sad really as it will be this way eventually. At least we got a solid century of good motoring.

I don't think it'll be impossible to drive your own manual car though. If anything insurance premiums will go down for all cars, because all the crap drivers won't be in control and causing accidents. The people driving non-autonomous will be the passionate drivers who pride themselves on good driving.
