So, don't follow to close to any STI's, you have been warned.

I wonder if following to close to an EJ will void your warranty?

I have a build date of 10/13 and a 2014 MY with my VIN 6th number starting in 60XXXX, It doesnt seem I am affected. Would that be correct?? I'm one month off from the threshold for the build dates.

If they're made at the same factory why would Toyotas recalls reach into 13?

The VIN matters more than the date. You are three months off the FRS/BRZ dates.

The others are different models of Subarus. The BRZ and FRS vins are in the same date range.

So is it a good or bad thing I sold my car just before this recall? I had knocking. I might have got a discount on a rebuild while they were doing the recall? Lol

For people who are worried, it's not that terrible of a job, the long block stays together, they only go in as far as the cam carriers.

It's common practice to do valve springs without taking heads off. Even the intake and exhaust can stay on, so the "working" part of the engine can stay closed and protected.

I find it very humourous that people who tune, turbo, run flex fuel, lower, change headers, want big wheels, etc. are all of a sudden worried about possible damage from valve spring replacement.

Asking a dealership to work with parts outside of their normal scope? Well yeah!

I'm curious what this means for modified folks; Would a dealer even touch them for this recall?

Based on Subaru and Toyota's history with modified cars, even cars that were stock and driven hard - depends on the stealership.

This ain't Mazda who was prioritizing new transmissions for club racers and autocrossers so they wouldn't miss events.

FYI for anyone unsure about VIN's the recall is already live on NHTSA's website

The vast majority of dealership techs are well trained and do this sort of work all the time. This ridiculous concept that they are all totally incompetent idiots is simply a car guy bias since they can all do a much better job than those trained for it.
Good point about the modded cars though. It will be interesting to see how the different shops deal with it since it is technically not warranty work. All of the cars impacted are well out of warranty by now anyway.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see. I'm not very well versed in how involved this work is going to be, but based on how little room there is, would this be a lift engine activity? -If so, a lot of us are going to have a bucket of aftermarket parts in the way..
