Happened to me once last week. A little over 1000 miles.
I have an auto and it was in the afternoon going home from work. It was around 70F temp wise. Cranked about 5 seconds and no start. A wtf moment and sat there for 10 seconds or so and tried it again and started after 3 seconds cranking. Usally starts as soon as I turn the key. Hasn't happened again. |

2 times in 2 weeks now, push button start cranks the engine on it's own for about 6 secs or more before it fired up. both times have been cold, but is ~50 degrees really that cold? both times trying to start about 1 hour after last shut off. never had CEL, so maybe just need to get that reflash/recall thing that came in the mail?...

Mine has done this maybe 2-3 times as well, it's totally random. I'll just go to start it and it will crank but never start, the second time it starts fine.

Happens to me too. Maybe about 3 times so far. The car has 2500 miles on it. It seems too prevalent among members for it to be driver error. Has anyone reported this to their dealer yet?

Well this kinda happened to me twice in the past 2 days... Go to start the car, clutch is to the floor, hit the start button and nothing. Key light flashes. Today I tried for 10 minutes and nothing until I took the key fob and threw into the little cubby. On the 3 attempt with the fob in the cubby it finally started.... It's kinda embarrassing... Any body have that happen?

So based on all the comments above, this is fairly a common issue?
Is there perhaps a TSB or recall issued for this matter? |

Just had it happen to me. Didn't drive the car for only 6 days and it's only 15 deg Celsius! Would just click once or twice and stop.
It happened a few months back but I blamed it on leaving my Blackvue with the extra battery plugged in (which it was this time too). That was worse, as I hadn't driven it for 7 days and the alarm wouldn't even unlock the car. I think unplugging the Blackvue when parked for more than 2 days may be the way to go from now on. |

Mine is driven every day. Today has been the warmest day we've had in a few weeks at least (60s in Fahrenheit). Push start took about 5 seconds to start. I had one other hesitation on start a few months ago, but not quite like this. Hit 6900 miles on the way to work this morning.

I haven't had to turn the key twice but lately (it's been cold-ish) sometimes after work (8 hours since driven) when I turn the key I can hear the starter (or something) click twice and then the engine spurs to life from a low rumble to high rumble.
That might be a bad description, but yes it's happening to me too...Automatic Transmission

Tried to start it again this morning, no dice. Going to do the cables later.
I should clarify that I have an MT BRZ with push-button start. The lights go on, and I can even switch the headlights on, but the starter refuses to go past the first "click", unless I push the button 2-3 times, in which case it clicks the same number of times. Nothing happens (although lights are on) if I try and start it again. I then have to abort the process using the button. I suspect what may have happened is that the Blackvue and its aux-battery has drained the battery due to the following: 1. I usually ask my friend (as it's parked much nearer to her) to start the car every few days. She started it every other day this week. 2. The Blackvue starts up and runs in parking mode once the car is started. This continues for some time after the engine has been stopped, using the Blackvue's aux battery. Then the Blackvue's aux battery draws power from the car. 3. I assume that the car, once started, only idled for 2-5 minutes. The charge passed to the car's battery during this time was not enough to compensate for the drain on the battery caused by the Blackvue aux battery, which was in turn caused by the Blackvue running in parking mode for several hours. Hence the moral of the story appears to be that I should unplug the Blackvue when I park it in this lot. This shouldn't be a major problem given that it's indoor, covered, very safe, and next to an (old) Rolls-Royce. |
