Job wise it will probably rank high on a list of cities. Also someone mentioned this last weekend that it made some must see list.

I read that the other day and I was thinking why? Maybe I just haven't seen that much of Houston.

Well as someone who moved from Houston to Austin I can tell you why Houston isn't so bad.

First and foremost, about 12 or so years ago Silicon Valley and every californian discovered Austin as a good place to live, so they all moved. Three things happened. First they killed any live music after 10 pm, then the traffic got terrible, and finally the jobs disappeared. Austin used to be a cool easygoing place, but now it's just a town with bad traffic and 6th street (tourists...)

In my opinion, all the people who remembered Austin in its heyday moved away to either Dallas or Houston. Now Dallas, Dallas never changes. But Houston was kind of going through an identity crisis anyway, it had a lot of run down areas that were ripe for redevelopment. People seized this opportunity and now you have places like the heights and midtown. Add in all the pre-existing culture and a job market that doesnt suck and all the peole who would have stayed at UT or moved to Austin now head out to Houston.

Anyway, I say Houston has more culture and night life than Austin does. Maybe not Austin ten years ago, but most def Austin today.

I personally like the Austin setting better. There are more outdoor things to do, it's not completely flat which gives for better sights, and more things to do outside in the city as well. I think by that last statement i mean it's MUCH safer to walk outside in Austin during the day or night. Apparently its still the cool place for "hip" kids to move to, yes i am referring to hipsters. With that being said i think Houston has more humble people except when theyre on the road.

Not ALL

There is a loop out by us between Sealy and Bellville. Hardly a canyon run, but it is pretty darn fun for this area.
