Hey guys I've had a Toyota 86 for a few weeks now and I'm getting used to the car and I'm noticing some things that I wanted to ask about.

How long does it take for your car to go from start up RPM to below 1000 RPM? I know on cold days it'll take longer for the engine to warm up but on most other cars I've driven it doesn't take this long. It was 35 degrees out and it took at least 5 minutes to drop to 1000 RPM and I was wondering if that's normal for this car...

It's a manual transmission with TRD exhaust. I'm probably going to install the TRD intake as well which'll clear up the engine bay and get rid of the sound tube...it makes me feel like I'm listening to more a "resonating" sound as opposed to the actual engine sound.

With my 2013 FR-S, when it's about freezing outside, and my car is cold and in my garage, it takes about a minute for it to come off of "fast idle". In the summertime, it takes it about 30 seconds.

I have had the car through temperatures in the negatives and it has never taken more than about 2 minutes to drop. Keep in mind that even when the idle drops the car is still not up to operating temperature so take it easy for the first few miles.

Hmm ok thanks maybe I'll get it checked out. What I notice is when I start the car, the needle for engine temp is well below the line for Cold as expected since it's freezing outside while the RPM's sit at about 1500-1600. As the car slowly warms up, the needle slowly rises to the Cold line which takes a few minutes. Once it hits that line, that is when the RPM's drop to normal idle speeds below 1000. So everything seems like it's working properly but the process takes up to 5 minutes which is longer than every other car I've driven.

Thanks for the responses!

These cars have an extremely large cooling system for the engine size so they do take a bit longer to warm up than some. Sounds like everything is fine.

Looking for info on the pioneer head unit to see if anyone has figured out how to do a custom start up image. Let me know if this has been covered elsewhere and post the link to the correct thread thanks!

What to buy with a 13k Budget?

Hello! I've chosen the 86 platform for my next daily car after my 300k mile 2001 Accord finally gave out on me. My budget right now is around 13k, and ideally I want a 2013 BRZ Limited with a manual transmission. Those, I can find with around 80-90k on them.

However, I can also find 10 series FRSs with a manual with like 50k on them for about the same price. I prefer the Subaru, and thats what I've been lusting over for the longest time, but should I put aside my preferences and go with the FRS?

I'll be driving the car on almost strictly highways to class during the week and spirited driving on the weekends. No track days or anything.

I'm also assuming I won't be able to talk a dealer down from $14k (around 60k miles on those) or so to 13k on a BRZ Limited. Am I wrong?

PS: Please forgive me if this is in the wrong spot, I'm new here. Let me know and I'll be happy to ask my question in the appropriate thread
