The only non-tick FRS i've seen was a LS1[?] swap haha

The 22r is one of the best engines ever produced. There are many examples over 1 million miles.

22re is a beast of an engine! Some might say the Keith Richards of engines.

The reason you can't hear the tick in an LSX swap is because the loping cams drown out all other sounds such as ticks, neighbors complaining about how the earth shakes every time your car is turned on and the sirens coming off of the fleet of highway patrols that are trying to pull you over for a sound violation ticket

I always considered it a part of the character of this car, the idle sounds like a chirping clicking mariachi band comprised of birds. Like I said this is not all the time just sometimes at idle, and I always use chevron premium gas 91oct only.

"Non-detrimental", right out of the TSB, it's just an annoying (to some) noise.

All direct injected engines are loud, it's a by product of the insanely high fuel pressure. Kia, VW, Hyundai etc. all are loud. Some do better at muffling it, but it's the nature of the beast.

UPDATE: Printed the TSB and went to my local dealership. Spoke directly with the shop foreman and the head of parts department. All parts will be in tomorrow and fixed by saturday! Feel like this whole thread is a late night addiction commercial..."I made the decision to have the work done, finally. I've been cricket free for 27 days..." lol

So, i was dealership and told them about the fuel pump and he checks my VIN and claims that my car already has the newest fuel pump. Then as i getting ready to head out he says he checked on the TSB again and there is some new "piping" that will help with the chirping. Im not really sure what to think of it.

So in California it has been hot 90-mid 90s for the past few days. Running new pump since November of last year so about 8 months roughly, I'm at 41,000 miles (7,000 or so miles on new pump). Been always using Costco 91 Octane (E10) since that's my go-to gas station since brand new.

Reporting in as Cricket Free.

Only 1,000 miles on the new pump but just about every day has been 80*f+ and no crickets at all.

Definitely notice more of the other clicks and ticks the engine makes with the chirping gone....it's a never ending battle lol

You the original owner? Was the pump put in before or after October 2016?

UPDATE: Got my car back today. NO CHIRPS! When I got the car at 22k months ago, I called around with every dealership saying it was a "repair" vs "warranty work" because it was non-detrimental but as the TSB on page 1 states, anything withing 6 year/60k is covered fully if the noise is heard. Warm your car up nice, print that TSB off and go in, ask to speak to the shop foreman, make them hear the sound, and you should be covered. I was told countless times over the phone I wasn't covered and that in person visit solved it. Trip 500 miles in a few days so the true test will be then. Will report back if I hear them resurface.

I am actually the second owner. My BRZ was a certified pre-owned so idk if they happened to update the fuel pump before they sold it to me.

I might just let them try out the new "piping" for the fuel pump because my car is still under factory warranty.
