Oil type and change interval for FI

Our oil change interval is every 7500 miles minimum with 0w20 synthetic. Less for aggressive driving or for short commuters, aggressive drivers or areas of high dust and so on.

I don’t put many miles on my car unless I go on a trip because my commute is only 3 miles to work or the gym, and I tend to drive aggressively, so I tend to change my oil every 6 months or every 3-4k miles like the manual recommends. Even though synthetic doesn’t degrade as bad over time, my oil changes would be once a year or less if I waited for the 7500 mile mark. And I live in California, so 0w20 synthetic is good.

Now that I’ll be adding a SC I believe I should be increasing the frequency I change the oil and changing the viscosity. The interval should be 6000 minimum, and I should use 5w30. I’m assuming this is the case because that is what Subaru recommends for the WRX, STI and Forester XT:

http://www.cars101.com/subaru/maintenance-2018.html

The idea is that with FI there is more engine wear and more blow-by that would degrade the oil. I’ll be running dual catch cans, but that won’t protect the oil from blow-by gases, so with my driving style I can see doing an oil change once every three months or 2-3k miles with 5w30 full synthetic.

Does that sound right?

I live in Canada and almost never allow my cars to go over 5000km (3100 miles) between intervals. I have also changed oil/filter just before a track day and then changed the oil afterward as well (not filter).

Recently disconnected the oil cooler after multiple attempts to fix several parts dripping oil under hard driving. Switched to 5W30 for a track day on Mon. Since the cooler is out I will monitor temps using Torque and will cool down once reaching 125-130 C (250 F) using Royal Purple (was on sale).

On my daily/winter driver the mileage was quite low for the first year. I followed the mfgs . recommndation and bring it in every 6 months if under required miles.

When I had my Cossie kit, I DDed the car. But I just changed every 6k miles. In the summer I'd run 5w30 and in winter 0w20. It seemed to work just fine for me.

The JRSC manual said change every 3k miles so that's what I do. I'll occasionally go over that if I'm not doing anything except travelling a lot like around the winter holidays.
